Couldn't find a post on this so here it goes.....

Don't know if anyone else has this problem but the leather on my steering wheel is starting to show signs of wear. The leather is starting to wear down and feel uncomfoartable. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and tried claiming warrantee on it. I have had the car a year if that matters.

 

my steering wheel was pretty much new but my leather seats didn't wear so well. they held up pretty crappy to everyday use. my friend has a cts thats about 2 years old and the leather looks terrible on both the wheel and seats. both of the examples are why i can't wait to get into my sport seats in the ss/tc. i don't think gm is putting qulity leather in any of their vehicles.

 

yeah i noticed yesterday that my steering wheel leather was wearing down a little in two spots. My car is only a year old so im wondering how its gonna hold up a couple years down the road...

 

Get a decent steering wheel cover. Problem fixed.

 

Yep...I bought a black "leather" one from Advance Auto the week after I bought mine and it's been over a year and it still looks brand new.

 

but then whats the point of having a leather wrapped steering wheel if your just gonna cover it

my seat is wearing kinda funny.... hoping warranty will cover it...

well i don't know if this will help on the seats, probably not but for the steering wheel when was the last time you cleaned it. i use just ordinary everyday baby wipes and take a couple to the steering wheel cleans it up real nice but be careful as the steering wheel becomes real smooth afterwards.

 

i have tried cleaning mine, but it doesnt work. mine looks kind of bad

 

well i dont have this issue but an idea you can cover your seats and steering wheel for everyday use an for shows and meets and what not just take them off..

 

My driver seat looks like ****.. has all wrinkles in it already. Passenger side isn't as bad but it's there.

**** you GM for making such cheap products!

 

Mine was showing some wear on the bottom (where I had a McD's cup and it rubbed) and I had it warrantied with no problems at all. Plus, I was wanting spare nickel plated trim to paint red.

 

You guys should try some leather wipes or leather conditioner. My car is a 2001 with almost 100,000 and the steering wheel and shifter still feel, and look great! I know it's a pain but you'll be surprised how much better it looks. Also, do what ever you can to keep the sun out of the interior when the car is sitting. Never leave your sunroof shade open with the car is parked and get front and rear window covers. If you do this, your leather, and the rest of your interior will say nice for a long time.

 

yeah I condition my seats and steering wheel every time i wash the car. and it help if you keep your hands clean to, I this may be hard to do at times but I keep a small bottle of purell in my car

 

That's true. When I got mine I was kinda bummed because I got the poly wrapped steering wheel instead of the leather, as my sister has one in her Cavi and it's worn out pretty bad. It's a shame but obviously GM looks at the Cobalt as "just a $20,000 car" just as the repair people do. I hope the leather is better in the Corvette and (future) Camaro.

 

Ditto. People give me funny looks when I use sun shades in the winter time, but my seats and steering wheel still look great after 2 years and 31k miles of use. I'm no lightweight either.

 

the damage to my seat was not sun damage, it was from everydy wear and tear. the quality of the leather is just not there. my father has leather in his 2004 altima and it looks like nobody has ever sat there even though he sits there everyday, in & out, and 55k. gm needs to stop pinching pennies here and there and just produce quality vehicles inside and outside. the crappy 1970s style antenna is another example of gm saving a few coins.
