Before i go and blow some money...

Hey everyone,

I'm looking up intakes-- and i think i'm sold on the k&n typhoon... It is listed at like 240ish, depending on the website. The thing is.. my car is an '06, and it's only listed for the '05 as of right now on knfilters.com.. Do you think that the web-tech guy is just lazy and didn't update it yet, or is it not gonna work on my car? I know most of you will think that this is a stupid question/post... but i'm only 18 so i gotta work my butt off for this car and everything i put into it, so i want to make sure that everything will work 100% before i go and blow some money on it.

Also, does anyone have this intake? Feedback would be great... If not, what do you have, and do you recommend it?

-Thanks in advance.

after doing a bit of research on these forums i decided to go with the AEM dry charger cold air intake. apparently a lot of people with the K&N have had CEL's from the oil used on the filter. AEM uses a dry filter and should not throw codes. I am waiting for it to be shipped to me, so I can't tell you my experiences with it yet, but this is what I've heard. I also picked it up from SportCompactsOnly for like $195 shipped.

I ordered it on the 30th of December I believe. I'm still waiting for the e-mail saying they shipped it. I only have the order confirmation. Said two business days before they would ship. I believe techincally this would be business day #2. I plan on doing a How-To post when installing it, as well as a review once I use it. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated...just look for the posts in about a week or two.

Just to make it clear one more time the CEL is not from the oil on the filter. The CEL comes from air not entering the car exactly how the overtight sensors want it.

Maybe for one or 2 people. The only warning to this effect out there is for over oiled filters after cleaning. People have thrown lights on unmodded cars just because the filter is not in perfect condition and the light went out when they simply turned the filter. I never threw a light with a K&N e-1009 in my airbox with the lid on it was right after i took the lid off that i got a light. I have the injen intake now and no light for more than a short period, the injen has basically a k&n filter on it.

One can only hope.

I think the tolerances are so tight now because GM purposely put small injectors in the car so anyone who is serious about upgrading would buy the stage 1 kit. Now since we don't know for sure when the kits are coming this may have been a bad idea as companies like Intense are begining to crack the PCM. If someone can crack the PCM before the stages come out GM may lose alot of money....

they didn't crack the PCM they kinda piggy backed it....no one has a reflash for the PCM yet.

I forgot if it was INTENSE racing or not, but I remember somebody saying they starting cracking the algorithms....so it shouldn't be long before we have complete control over the pcm.

Never said one was out but they are working on it, as are some individuals and hopefully other companies....During one of the threads, i believe about the piggyback system, someone had good info on the way to getting into the PCM.

my buddy, lil blue sc has a K&N and it looks good.
I have the Injen.

He had boost problems, too much boost, not caused from the filter but a bad switch on the manifold.

His is clean and looks good. Its grey metal metallic. It doesn't turn as severely as mine does coming out of the supercharger intake.

I can hear the whine of his supercharger when I am in my car behind him. Not sure which is louder mine or his.
If you want a good buy, get it. Hell, get either of the intakes. You'll see 4-20 hp gains with which ever intake you get. So, for the money, get the one that appeals to you with its looks and the price.

my .02 cents

Thanks alot--- how much did you wind up paying for the injen? Price is a big factor for me, i gotta work my butt off for it, and if they're both similar, i'd rather go with the cheaper.

Didn't really want to start a new thread...but I just got a phone call from SportCompactOnly. Apparently they posted the AEM Cold Air Intake for sale on their webpage before they actually recieved the product. AEM has not yet released the intake and is not available for purchase. I am getting screwed over here and I am still waiting on a return call to either get my money back, or another product. They carry Injen, but don't have any Injen intakes for the SS S/C.....
