grinding noise started abruptly today and isn't going away..?
grinding noise *with vid* ***UPDATE***
I drove the car this morning, no noise. I did have to basically fire it up in 30 degree weather, let it idle about 30 seconds, and drive because of ********* at work calling me in early with only a little bit of notice...eh what gives.
Anyways, I fire it up this afternoon and there is this grinding type noise coming from the engine bay, its pretty loud. Loud enough to be able to hear it while inside the car driving with the window down. Its really loud at idle. The car isn't running any different, but it has been having a hard time keeping a steady idle the past couple weeks, but I blame my plugs for that.
Any idea? I can't pinpoint the noise, it seems to be coming from everywhere under the hood. I searched and found a few threads about the chain tensioner, think this might be my problem?
Should I not be driving it at all? Sucks, cause that will basically put me on foot, but I don't want to drive it if I'm going to make the problem worse....
Input please, I'm frustrated.

i had the EXACT SAME THING about 18 months ago, it endd up being the SC blades rubbing hard against the inside of the sc. If youve switch pullies, you likely moved the shaft off center slightly, and it gradually moved further and further away.
They had to replace my supercharger, mine was under warrenty, it has the s2 pulley on it when i took it in hehe
id taker in big guy
that sounds bad... check your dipstick, you never kno... lol, but in all reality its prob a timing chain, if ur under warranty i would take it in. unfortunately diagnosing problems is one of the hardest things to do over the internet, someone needs to physically look at it.
Yeah, I understand that. I just wanted you guys to hear, cause I know those of you who have had the tensioner problem would recognize the sound.
But it could possibly be the supercharger, but I can hear the noise coming from everywhere it seems, so I don't know about that.
And ya, there is oil in it, lol.
So...no driving
will they give me a rental while its in the shop? Those of you that had this happen, how long did they have to keep your car?

I'll check that out today, not getting my hopes up though, thats for sure.
what is TSB

Ok, guys....here is what is going on....
I drove it to the dealership tonight, supposed to leave it there overnight for them to look at it tomorrow...
I get there, and the noise is GONE...completely....purrs like a kitten. Idles nicely, did a few little romps and the supercharger is boosting perfectly. I'm like, wtf...so I drive it back home, I figure no one is getting a joyride in my car unless there is a reason for it.
I've had the CEL light on since my exhaust, basically the O2 reading that too much air is going through the cat.
I decided I'd do a diagnostic again to see if any new code had popped up. What do you know...the 02 code is GONE, and a new code is there....a too lean code. Now I'm really confused. Could this be my o2 just completely reading wrong? I'm going back to a 2.9 just in case..
But for those of you that will flame me now because of the 2.8, at my elevation I was only running 13.5psi on the stage 2, running PIG RICH. The 2.9 helped a little, but was still rich as hell, fouling plugs left and right, and only seeing 15 psi. With the 2.8 I was seeing about 16.5...plugs are starting to foul again now after about 4k miles.
Another thing...I pulled my Ingalls off last night and I realized today that I hadn't started the car after I pulled that off...is it possible the Ingalls was causing that noise?
Thanks guys. I'm confused as all hell.

nope , i bet it's still the timming chain. I had a friend who's Tchain went and it would completely clear up for a time and then come back 2 days later . It did this for a week before they finally took it in and got it fixed.
So far it hasn't come back...I'd rather take it to the stealership when its actually making the noise that way that can't say I'm just full of it, you know? I dunno, I'll keep this thread updated on what happens.
Mine did that exact same thing about a year ago. A rattling sound coming from the timing chain area. It seemed to have no effect on the way the car drove or performed, just annoying. It lasted for 2 or 3 days, the day before I was going to bring it in to the dealer it just stopped, and has never done it since.
Isn't the timing chain tensioner on these cars hydrolic? If so, do the get there pressure from the engine oil or are the self contained, like the serpintine belt tensioner?
