clutch smoked in cruise control

Is this possible or anyone have this problem before. I moved from Pennsylvania to california and drove my 06 cobalt ss/sc and was on cruise probably 90% of they way without a problem but when I hit Iowa and was going up and down the rockies which are very steep on hill I had cruise set at 70mph and looked down and was going 80mph, so I hit the brakes which kicked the cruise off then at the bottom I hit resume and it just slipped but at first I didnt know so I hit the gas to get it goin and went nowhere. Is it possible the clutch got got smoked from trying too hold the car when it couldnt????? Because now my clutch barely engages. The car only has 16,000 miles on it and never had a problem before I seen that happen.

One word for you....WARRANTY.

Take it to the dealer and see what they say.

Yours lasted 10,000 miles longer than mine did

Thanks folks. I kinda figured something was wrong and was of no fault of mine but just wanted some feedback before I limped it to my new home and conmfronted them. I have driven sticks for a long time although Ill admit the cobalt is different in some aspects. Just wanted some insight first. I was leaning towards a defect also but wanted to be sure. Take care and have fun with your rides.

There have been issues with the transmission casing cracking causing gear lube to get on the clutch...with your symptoms I wouldn't be surprised.
