Serious Ignition Problem!!

So this morning I went to start my car and as usual it revs up too 2 thousand but then it dropped down to 500 sputtered and shuddered and died! I did this about 20 times before it started running half way normal...what the hell is going on? Any suggestions?

Replace your ICM. What kind of plugs are you running?

could also possibly be bad spark, how long have you run those plugs and wires?

Also, Have you taken out your injectors recently? Whens the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

How many miles do you have on your car?

Halfway normal? Could be your coil pack, could also be fuel filter or fuel pump. Could be a ton of things, what year is your car?

1. I ahve just the stock plugs and wires.

2. The last time the injectors were taken out was to put the new 42LB injectors in for S2 about 3 months ago.

3. Around 16500

4. Its an 07

Could it have been caused by a large temperature change? It has done this before(not as bad as this time) when I try and start it up on cold mornings...

i had a very similar problem earlier this year. When i started the car up, the revs and idle would bounce up and down for like 20 mins and then normal out. I put new plugs in and added some fuel dryer and havent had the problem since.

I wouldn't have run stock plugs on a stage 2 setup...they are probably fowled out, what you explained the car did is exactly what happens during fowling and usually happens in one or two startup attempts. My advice is to run the next step colder ngks and take the car to your nearest programmer to re-adjust your fuel map... i had the same problem and when i had it reprogrammed, i gained 18hp also!

Okay sounds good I was planning on getting the NGK's when I ordered my 2.9 pulley but I guess I can go ahead and get the plugs first. Can I just put the spark plugs in and wait for the tune until I get my new intake and a 2.9?

you'll probably fowl them right out again, i would just have it hauled to the shop... i lucked out and AAA took mine for me. If you have a second vehicle, try hard to delay your gratification and do it all at once.. the best advice i can give you is don't try to take shortcuts when workin on cars, it never seems to work. Plus, your plugs will change the ignition timing slightly and won't run right until retune!

yeah. . .lets spend 3+ hours at the dealership to have them change spark plugs. It would only take him 15 mins tops.

Its so painfully obvious what the problem is, hes running stage 2 with non colder plugs. . .

Clean you throttle body, it's like $3 for a can of trottle plate cleaner. It worked for me.

I've been running a 2.9 with 42's intake and exhaust for over a year now on stock plugs...no issues, no knock...

yea, however GM designed the stage kit to run on a stock car.....if it needed new plugs they would of mentioned in the kit don't you think.....no need to be an ass.

im not being an ass, im being honest. Gm kits are designed to run on a stock car? There is nothing stock about injectors, pulley and Tune.

Plugs are fowled its as simple as that. GM stage 2 tune can eat plugs pretty fast, its a very rich tune that doesnt have a problem leaving carbon deposits all over the plugs.

Before he does anything to the car, best practice would be to check the plugs. No sense taking it to the dealership when it will take him more time to drive to the dealership than it would to pull out a plug.

Yes, the kit is made to put on a stock car, meaning GM doesn't say it needs any other supporting mods to run the kit (plugs, exhaust, etc.)......and yes I know the plugs can get fouled out......and they would still foul out even if they were 1 step colder. But they also are copper plugs and don't have the lifespan of the platinums either. I don't think the problem is because he isn't running 1 step colder plugs.

They won't warranty if they didn't install it... i was under the impression that you installed the stage 2 and is it an actual stage 2 GM kit? If not, just have it tuned to your specs. Your engine will run the most optimal to a custom reflash especially if you have custom air cleaners and such.
