Yes I know there are a lot of oil threads, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I need my oil change dagain soon, but I seem to get off work when Chevy service dept. is closing. Any ways my question is, if I use a different oil I need the engine flushed, correct? What is a good oil for a N/A engine??

castrol/ mobil/ quaker state. im pretty sure they are all good. i personally use mobil 1 in my 2.2 and change the oil every 6-7K miles. saves money then buying cheap oil and changing every 3k.

Why would you change from mobil - 1 ? It is one of the best performing oils out there. I changed from normal mobil - 1 to mobil 1 extended performance good for 15,000 miles but I will change every 7500k. Also if you are going to switch brands which doesn't make sense do not go with anything but synthetic.

You sir are correct, N/A. Thinkin Mobil 1 anyway, but everyone says you can't change to reg oil later. I have a relative that works with an oil addative manufacturer who says synthetic is great until it gets too warm, then it breaks down quicker than normal oil. I know synthetic is supposed to keep everything cool anyways.

The bigger, more important issue is changing your oil and filter on time. I use Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic and a Motorcraft filter. You can use plain old dinosaur oil, as long as you change it and install a new filter at 3k. The problem I have with these new "extended performance" oils is that while they may* be fine for 7500, 10000 or 15000 miles, your filter is not. call me anal but my car get new oil and filter every 3000 miles.

as far as "flushing" your engine bc of a new oil, I've never heard of that. Use whatever brand you want, just make sure the manufacturer's recommended weight its used whether it be regular, semi or fully synthetic. changing brands wont make a difference.

theres a web-site/forum out there I wanna find for you. its all about oil. those guys will be able to help you. most of them send their samples out and have a professional oil analysis done. they are real specific about what they put in their engines.

like i said earler, i switched from RP to Mobil1 and havent had any problems whatsoever. And i know RP uses moly-B, a powder-like chemical not found in other oils. Car runs just as good as the day it was bought. If your car ever does start running sluggish, theres some stuff called Seafoam that will clean the carbon out of your intake, valves and other parts of your engine including oil sludge depending on how you apply it. if you ever do use this, READ UP ON IT FIRST! sometimes it works too good on older engines and actually removes sludge that created a seal inside the crankcase over time. anyway, thats another story.

(in super quiet secret voice) I dont drive a cobalt, and I've never heard of a top mounted oil filter. rather convenient I'd assume. good job on GM's part. my advice was given to engines in general. I mean I've heard of flushing the radiator and tranny, but not the actual engine.

If you change the oil you are flushing it. Synthetic oil is superior to regular motor oil in every way! You will never have an oil filter clog in 15,000 miles.

Technically, GM advises that one of the only motor oils thats synthetic that they approve of is mobil1, so potentially any other oils can void your warranty if they found out, but the odds of that happening are slim to none, just buy oil and change it reguarly, you'll be okay...

I have used mobil 1 for all of my last 3 cars... wouldn't use anything but it.... works great last a long time... even though I am still die hard at 3000 miles, or 3 months.... But I STILL USE IT AND ALWAYS WILL! Love it good stuff!
