Brakes squeak after disengaged

Okay hopefully someone can help me with this one. My car as roughly 28,xxx miles and my brakes are squeaking after I let my foot off the brake. Could I need new brakes or brake pads?

Oh yeah, would rusty drums have the effect on this?

I mean I get a nice squeak after I let off the brake after putting into any gear.

A squeak while not on the brakes is usually the warning indicator (a metal tab that sticks out near the pad) rubbing against your rotor. You're probably due for pads, but pop the wheels off and check to be sure.

Yeah what Tom said, if you take off those wheels spray the hell out of them with brake cleaner and see if that gets rid of it. Look at them if they are worn down to around 1/8 to 1/4 inch they have about had it.

my car does the same thing. Its most likely omming from the rear brakes/ drums. Im gonna do a little cleaning on them at work tommorow. Most likely you wont need new shoes for the rear though. I have 36K and my brakes are still fine.

You didnt say for sure if it was coming from the back(squeak)But all you probably need is to lube or clean some of the moving parts.

Where you talking about after releasing you E-brake then I would say the cable where it enters the drum needs a little lube.
