Short throw + weird shifting feel.

Ok so, I have the stock shifter on at the moment, and to me, it feels like its grinding into gears at times. I won't ever hear it grinding but I can feel it having a rough time engaging gears. It usually does it into second and third, and it does it whenever the hell it pleases, and itl happen either when I'm shifting normally or more so on the quick side. Is this normal with this tranny?

Also, I want to put a short throw shifter on my car, will this void any part of my warrenty?

If there is something wrong with my tranny, I'd rather wait till that breaks and they pay to fix it before I put in a short throw shifter.

Your linkage could need to be adjusted or the linkage sheathing could be cracked right up where it attaches to the tranny. Best bet is to take it in if you are unsure before you install a short shifter.

Yeah I already took it in and they did nothing about it, everything was fine in their world. Its a pain in the ass to get it in as well since I don't have any other way to get to work and all they have ever told me so far is that things are normal....

Pull it up to a stop light. hold the clutch in and shift from 1st, to second really fast. If you feel it loosening up a bit then you need to get your linkage tightened. This solved my issue 100% and made the shifter feel like new.

Also consider your driving style. If it only grinds during high rpms when you punch it, then you may need to change your trans fluid (GL-4 rated)

If its at low RPMS while cruising then a heaver trans fluid (GL-4/GL-5) like the royal purple stuff would work.

Just be careful since if you go too dense you will grind while racing, too thin and you will grind lower RPM. An easy method of fixing the low rpm grinding is to keep it at 3k before you shift.

These are just my observations.

I always shift at 3k, and it does this whenever the hell it feels like.

I think that was your post I just read about tightening the linkages, I'm going to get that done now and see if it helps. Once I get it into a gear while I'm stopped, it goes into any other gear nice and easily, its just getting it into gear at first or while shifting into another gear (especially 2nd and 3rd). I don't hear grinding, but I can feel it in the shifter. 4th n 5th it slides nicely into, reverse feels a bit odd as well.

The best way I can explain it is that it feels like something is holding it out of the gear.

Either way, for under a 100 bucks, I'm going to try the linkages.
