Metal bits in the oil...

Alright, this engine has 3100 miles on it. Had an oil change about 500 miles ago. Should there be any metal (flakes, some chunks) in the oil? Bone stock.

Probably a seal or maybe you spun a bearing but for it being that soon it's under warranty.

how are you driving this car.

don't tell me being nice to it, because for you to go through 2 motors this soon is not being nice to it.

Are you serious....something is maybe screwed up with your ECU if it keeps doing stuff like that. I would talk with your insurance company and they can talk with the dealer. Lemon Law FTW!!!

I was trying to avoid that. But I think it might be inevitable

Actually, I am being very nice to it. The first motor blew due to the timing chain guides falling apart. Sounded like somebody dumped a pile of pennies in the motor.

This motor had issues since day one...Never idled right, backfired/misfired. Also, when the dealer gave it back to me, there was no oil in it (or at least not enough to reach the dipstick).

HAHA....that could be the reason right there. I would bitch my ass off to the guy in charge. Not enough oil, that is just bs.!!!

I know how you feel, I got in a wreck with my car, took me almost a month to have it completely fixed, they had to do an alignment 4 times just so it would drive straight. Insurance company handled all that for me.

This car has really been one problem after another. Been in for warranty work 26 times...and they had the car for 39 days. LOVE IT!

I guess the big question is how much (if any) metal is normal in the oil? Especially 300-400 miles after an oil change?

actually, you will get a little bit of metal in the oil during the break in period, due to the rings seating and such. I woudln't worry about it too much, unless there is chunks. But few metal particles IS normal in the begining. Change tho oil and maybe change it sooner than 3k and see if it persists

I'm pretty sure LSJ's were factory broke in . Maybe that doesn't apply to crate motors thou.

my motor sounds the same way now! the dealer said i need new cams, cam housing and cam sensor.. the idle fluctuates (sp) alot and sometimes seems llike it wants to stall out and backfires/misfires alot as well.. but i HAVE oil in my car

So, is there any definitive answer on whether or not there should be some metal in the oil? BTW, I am noticing this right off the dipstick. Some splinters, some flakes.

Oil in your cars engine is like blood in a humans body. You wouldnt want metal in your blood, and your car hates you and has metal in its oil.

Did your engine ever get really hot? It could be many things, bit you may have melted a piston...
