Oil Smells Like Gasoline

Alright guys, anybody know if this is normal? Just had the oil changed at the dealership 3 weeks ago. I noticed some white smoke from the exhaust this morning, and I went to check for coolant in the oil. It wasn't frothy or anything (definitely discolored though), but it reeks of gas.

Any ideas?

Well, this is the second motor in the car...it has 3000 miles on it. Should be a fun trip to the dealer.

piston rings...when they start leaking and losing compression you can get gas in the oil

that is not an easy fix....you would have to take of the head (which includes cam and getting the timing chain off), pull the pan, take the bolts out of the rods, get the pistons out, swap the rings, compress and fit the pistons back in, bolt it up, re-do all of your timing, and reverse the process....ALOT of time and effort....and while you are in there you could just go ahead and throw in some nicer rods/pistons

Not to sound dumb or anything, but could that also cause the white smoke? The car has a serious hesitation off idle and will have some white smoke in the exhaust. Occasionally the car will backfire and belch some black smoke. The exhaust is generally very wet also.

yes that could...it would be burning oil due to the failed seal between the piston and the sleeve

Is there an easy way to tell? This car has been a total lemon and I would love to go into the dealer with some solid info...

well...they could do a compression test...and maybe see some oil in the tail pipe...and gas in the oil / white smoke is a dead give away.

Very good info. I'm guessing that belching black smoke and soot mixed with water in between the white smoke signals is a bad sign?

the black smoke is just your engine running rich...even my car spits black smoke on a hard shift or what not. and the water could be condensation inside the exhaust pipe.

Yeah. the white smoke is what concerned me first. It seems like this car has run rich from day one anyway.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that It is an 06 SS/SC, bone stock. The motor was replaced in January of this year because the timing chain guides failed (at least this is what they told me).

ok, if its cold then you could get condensation...but if its above the dew point you shouldnt have that problem and you should not have anything white coming out of there. The reason it is black is due to the car running rich, they do that from the factory...and the dripping water is from the catalytic converter, it turns some emissions into water which is ejected out the tail pipe.
