ok, in your engine you have a piston inside of a sleeve that compresses the gas/air mix on the up stroke. A small ring on the piston seals it tight to the sleeve so you get compression at the top; when that ring is broken/grooved/ripped/etc. the seal is broken and the pressure created by the up stroke will push the gas/air mix past the seal and towards the crank. Since there is oil around the crank the gas/air mix will combine with the oil (since gas and oil do mix).

The reason for the white smoke is the oil slung up by the piston (to keep the sleeve walls lubricated) will get past the ring on the down stroke, and durrng combustion it will burn with whats left of the air/gas mix. When the oil burns it creates a white/blue smoke.

Causes for compression loss and ring failure are being rough on your engine for an extended period of time, adding boost (excess compression that the ring can not take), metal slivers in the oil, running the car hot.....normaly just beating on your motor

Maybe your engine converted itself into a refinery! You could become a Billionaire with that car!

I've been working for GM for a few years now and it seems like to me that higher performance cars sometimes get a gas smell in the oil. Be it a corvette or any SS model from time to time when you drain the oil there is a smell of gas and the cars all run great.

I checked for any Bulletins for you and I could't find any. But like everyone else told you, if there is any other color smoke than black coming out of the exhaust when the engine is hot, then you have a serious problem ..... probably rings

Yeah, there is definitely white smoke when the car is hot. Like I said before, the motor has about 3000 miles on it, and hasn't been beaten on at all. It's at the dealer now with a laundry list of warranty work...

Quick Update...

White smoke is getting worse. Warm day today (upper 60's) and the car smoked constantly after start up for about 7 minutes. Also smoking whenever the engine is revved. Exhaust is sounding very different. Lots of pops, backfires, and just sounds more uneven than usual. Dealership said NOTHING was wrong lat week. I am having some trouble believing that. The engine is also starting to sound like it has a hell of a valve tick.

Can anybody give me some simple things to check so I can go in there and give them specifics?

If it was just the oil, I might just not worry about it. It's all of the other things that make me nervous. Plus the fact that my car can't go a week without something else breaking. I shredded the timing chain guides in December and the car didn't give a CEL, but it was still severe enough to replace the motor. At any rate, the way it is running now, I have complete faith that a CEL is in my future.

Another update...

Trying to figure out what's wrong. If I pop off the oil cap when the car is running there is lots of air being pushed out. Enough to make the oil cap dance if you just leave it sitting in there unscrewed.

thats because you are getting air past the rings and into the crank case...which would eventually come out the top of the motor...

...you have ring issues for sure man

I love my dealer. They gave me the car back on Friday and they are telling me there is nothing wrong with it.

The problem is this dealer did the motor replacement and GM "prefers" that I go there. It's all quite great.
