That is one damn nice looking commercial. I can't wait to get this dang car. Everyday I am just hoping my dealer is gonna tell me they have a build date.

OK, some things I noticed in the commercial....... NO HEATED SEATS , the car really needs side skirts on it, it does not have Riccardo seats in it, it has the silver guages as originally shown, and the boost guage seems really low on the pillar.

GM is building this hype on purpose! Fokers!

Thank you for posting that!

Ok having a Chevy Xtreme with the side skirts and air dams I have to say I really don't care about that. After like 5 years of worrying about ripping off one of em (and they have twice in the snow) I don't care so much. I am glad to not have to worry about it once I get my SS

yeah, i saw the emblems right off the bat...good move if they decided to put them back, which i hope they did...i also noticed the antenna...they either unscrewed it and took it off, or its a power antenna (which i really hope it isn't as they are pieces of crap.)...i just dont know why they couldnt do like everybody else is doing, and integrate it into the rear glass...

Man that blue looks great! The interior dash looks great too, I really hope they keep the all silver radio/HVAC controls instead of the mix of black and silver...but, yeah, wow! This car cannot come soon enough.

I'm really interested in seeing the Silver SS though, typically I'm not a fan of the lighter Silver colors that GM has but I think on the SS it will look nice.

Thanks for the vid. GM is gonna have people going after these like crazy people by the time their available. And I'll be speaking from experience if I don't get the build number for mine soon. DAMN, THAT'S A NICE CAR. Makes my '03 Z24 look like a Pinto inside and out.

P.S. PULLING MY HAIR OUT OVER THIS

The guy driving the car looks like his in the late 20’s. What is the target market for the SS again?

y2kzman
02-04-2005, 08:57 PM
I am 30. More than teenagers are interested in this car. I was happy to see an "older" guy in this commercial.

Voodoosoup
02-04-2005, 09:00 PM
I'm with y2kzman ^^^

Another 30 year old here, I think he even looked older than that.
Looks like the gray hair is coming in..... Or I just look really young for 30 :D

And that's my damn car he's driving!!!!!!!!

Now that I jsut watched it again, I guess it's just the overall gloomy look of the commercial, overcast etc......... I guess he doesn't look that old.......then again 30 isn't very old anyway.

In a way I think the car has to fill a temporary void to the segment of GM buyers that really want something to replace the void left by the camaro, and the Impala and Monte SS's just don't do it for me. Too big, too slow, to ugly. I'd never even think about buying anything less than the SS SC model. I wanted to stick with an american company and I wanted a performance coupe for less than $23,000. There just aren't too many choices out there right now, foreign or domestic. The cobalt seems to be a perfect fit.
I wanted something that would be better than my Alero in both performance and how it comes equipped. I'm getting a slightly smaller car, with more HP than my V6, a manual tranny, and it's almost fully loaded, for a tad bit more than my alero stickered for 6 years ago. The mustang was an option but once you load it up with all the options to get it to the rim level of the Cobalt (leather, stereo, etc.) It's just too much money, and I need something that I'll be more comfortable driving in the winter. If they made a Subaru WRX in an AWD coupe configuration I'd probably own one of those right now.....
The Cobalt is just a perfect fit for me right now.

You can tell by the demographics on this site that not everyone is 16-19...I'm 21 and I know most of us are either in college or recent grads, so I'm not surprised.

I remember ads for the SVT focus and they also basically featured a guy in his mid 20's.

Personally, I'd prefer to not have a bunch of 17 year olds driving the same car I'll have. No offense to 17 year old members on this site ofcouse. ;)

Lol i see what u mean, well I think the target market is the same as those of other sport compacts, aka SRT''s, WRX's etc. Of course you will have kids buying these things, as with any new compact car that comes out. Personally I wouldn't of liked the SS as my first car, i mean what i did with my bumper on my civic I would never want happening to that! Really its preference, but I feel like I can handle a car like that now being older, more so than before.
That commercial definetly shows someone of older stature, so I think its good that is targeted in that way. The SS anyway is in the same price range of the RSX-S (roughly) so its targeted more towards people who can afford 21,000+ cars than those of a younger market base.

I'm with y2kzman and voodoosoup^^^

I just turned 32...... I think the cobalt SS will appeal to a slitly older croud that has some experience with compact sport cars..... Us old folks know a good car when we see one (that is from experience)

I'm trying to figure out what the white "bland" cars are in the commercial. Are they fake cars built for the commercial?

Also, has anyone seen the other Cobalt commercial airing in Canada? It's for the Cobalt Sedan. Basically, it takes place in suburbia where everyone is ignoring their bland, white sedans. One guy comes out (it's his turn to drive the carpool) in his black LT sedan and is swarmed by a huge mob of neighbours like a scene out of Dawn of the Dead. He says, "I can only take four of you!" and a riot breaks out as to who the lucky few will be. They drive off leaving everyone else sad and disappointed.

i think a lot of them look like 04 corolla's.

as for target demograhpic; it's a yuppy car. Mid 20's seems right. Just when professionals start making money, need a car, but don't yet have kids.

Firenze

I think the sedans will appeal to anyone on a budget while the coupes will target the yuppies (20-30) while the SS will be even narrower and target the tuner sub-culture.

I'm turning 26 and will probably get the LS Coupe so I guess GM's marketing was spot-on.

1. its RECARO seats.

2. Great commercial. Kinda od they used a SS and mentioned nothing about it.

I believe the cars in the parking lots were Corollas--yawn.

I believe he's correcting the often used "Ricardo" with what the company really is, "Recaro".

Thanks Jonel, Voodoosoup already emailed it to me. Thanks again for that Phil.

Decent commercial, it was on again here during the Superbowl. All of my friends (19-23 year olds) were like "Hey thats a really nice car". It definitely does stand out and look good in blue, but I hope they do a more performance geared commercial for it soon.

just b/c u think chevy doesn't have much taste doesn't mean that it's true, personally i hate how the redline looks and to me saturn has no taste, but i know everybody has their own taste and opinion and not everyone likes the same thing, its all about whatever floats your boat, so if u don't have something good to say... :D

p.s. i don't know y people that dislike the cobalt would take the time to find a cobalt forum, sign up, and post???

I have to chime in on the target market issue. I am probably the old man on this site at 42, but to me that is meaningless - my 50-something cousine's wife drives a WRX and she is cool. I currently have an 01 Cavalier Z-24, and fell in love with the SS the first time I saw a picture of one.

Notice when you make it to my age you become a pretty good speller as well!! :D

For anyone who hasnt seen the new Cobalt SS...it is nice upclose and personal. I went to a big car show on this past friday and got to see the SS up close (unfortunately they werent letting you get inside of it) and it is better then what the pictures let on. In the pictures it looks alot bigger in my opinion, but really it isnt. I cant wait another week without getting to test drive this car. I know someone who works for a chevy dealer and they said it should be on the showroom by the 20th...cant wait
