Angry Orlando Speed World Wednesday Night Test and Tune

I went out tonight to the weekly Wednesday Night Test and Tune at Orlando Speed World hopping to run my car for the first time. Well when I got to the gate it was still locked as they had cancelled due to weather. This time of year in Florida sucks because it rains every evening. They did say that if it looks the same on Friday they will probably still run, but I don’t know if I want to go out there then.

How many css.net / g5gt.net regulars go out to Speed World?

Haha, dont go to Speedworld

Its always a disappointment. They have no idea how to prep their track. It is worth the drive out to the Gainseville Raceway, trust me.

However, if you still opt not to take my advice, I may be willing to meet you up there. I have never seen any other balts at either track though. Lol

Well Speed World is only about 15 min from my house so it is nothing for me to get off work a few minutes early and get out there on time. Speed World does actually have a good reputation for "Street Drags" but I would understand the track prep if I was running anything very competitive. For anything running over twelve seconds I personaly dont think it matters, unless you were running an E.T. class or something.

No doubt though that Gainsville is a mutch better track in every aspect, but that is a good two hour drive from East Orlando.

Ohh yea, nevermind then. I would run on a dirt track if it was that close to my house. Lol. I may be willing to make a trip over there, when do you plan on going next? Im always up, especially if there are other Cobalts there.

I have found that the couple extra times I have gone to G-Ville, I seem to have better times, thats why I recommended it over OSW. However, I dont think the difference, if any is worth the two hour trip.

very true. For our power level, or any cobalts power level, the orlando speedworld is prepped JUST fine. Ive never wheel hopped out there, always have excellent traction in first (i floor it after 3.5k rpms of feathering, starting at 2.2k), and great 1-2 shift tractions (plus my clutch is a champ).

If you are willing to say that a poorly prepped track will not affect lower HP cars then you so do not know what you are talking about. If you have power to spin the tires (which coablts do) then it can affect you. Seeing as how almost every Coablt owner complains about wheel hop then you have to be concerned over a poorly prepped track. When you combined poorly prepped with the fact that most cars are parking in the grass and dirt, then you just set-up for a crappy track. There is a reason people call it Orlando Spin World. Yes when you are driving RWD and a 4 link and big slicks it is a little easier to get a car to hook up. It affects the fast cars less and the slower cars more, and even worse for FWD.

I'm actually gonnna bring some friends and go there prob. next week or so. I go to school in Gainesville, fyi and I like that track out there. but $20 to race oppose to $15 and I'm like stuck in between both when I come home. so I dunno. Most of you guys seem to be in O-tizzle, so yeah, lemme know if anyone wants to get together....
-the poor ass cobalt owner! ahha

Unhappy

I wont be able to go out this week. I am working back out in California again. I would like to go out on July 2nd if anyone is interested in meeting up. This would be cool to make it a weekly thing, although I know not everyone can go every week.

2 things dude:

1) Ive seen 6 second cars there, no problems for them.

2) I am goin plenty good for my power level, so the track must be alright

I understand it CAN be pretty bad, but there are sometimes other factors. I am living proof that it can be done, same with my buddy matt who runs 13.7s there. These cars can easily get out of the hole at speedworld.

i heard they only prep like the first 60-100 feet so if you have power after that you spin. Also they only prep on the nights there is pro stock qualifying...
