Suspension / Spring choices

Tomorrow is a HUGE day for me. My Black on Black SS/TC arrives in Atlanta! Loaded with every option but the wing.

I'll post up some shots after I get a couple coats of Zaino and a clay bar on the paint. So, what choices do we have as far as suspension goes? Can we bolt in a SC set of coilovers - or are the mounting locations / lower A arms / spindles different?

I did a couple searches and came up dry. Even a decent set of springs that are firm enough to improve the ride - not degrade it. I think KW goes with a soft spring a firm rebound. Who knows?,,,

Anyway, I'm anxious to get the car lowered.

Thx!

Why the car is track ready. your just going to throw the balance off i think. i wouldnt recommend it because this car is track proven at "the ring"

wait till you drive it you will see!

I agree, but there is an ugly wheel gap if i were u id wait for Eibach sportlines to be released in our year so far they still only show it 4 07's, and if it fit im sure they would tell us so the could sell more of their product...be patient young grasshopper.

If you are going to change the suspension on this car, make it worth it - true coilovers. I suspect anything else will make it handle worse (although taking out that wheel gap would look good).

Why are you going to clay bar a brand new car with probably perfect paint?

well, im going to guess it travelled my truck, probably open to the air, from the top to the bottom of the united states, so it probably picked up some contaminates on the paint. claybar wouldn't hurt. unless they shrinkwrap the SS/TC's but i doubt it.

10hrs until I get the keys!!

Yep! I dont doubt the paint is perfect - it whats on the paint that needs to come off. Doing a clay bar and Zaino is going to make the paint shine like glass and protect it.

My friend has a 350Z Nismo (black) with about 20 coats of Zaino. Overkill but looks amazing. 2 coats will do me just fine.

About the suspension, I agree - wait for the coilovers. A good set of coilovers. No D2s. No Nex. No Orange ones..whatever brand those are. Stick with something thats proven. Granted, our cars pulled in a 8.22 on the ring, but lowering the CG, reducing weight transfer and roll sitffness is gonna be an improvement when the right type of spring/shock combo is added.

So do we know if the proven setups from the SC carry over?

not sure, the steering/suspension geometry is slightly different, but they might work just fine. not sure if anyone knows 100%

you could always take one for the team and get some B&G's and see if they fit. if not, you can sell them to me!

Car's are modded the minute they leave the showroom, so possibly someone has already done this?

What about TC v SC chassis weight and weight distribution. Are those essentially the same?

i wouldnt be to worried about it. the ss/sc's suspension was tuned on the ring too. the suspension set-up is exactly the same, and can be improved. its a cobalt not a supercar, coilovers will be a huge improvement.

I found these.. sportslines from Eibach for the 08s (who knows for sure)

"Lowering Kit - SS - L4 - 2.0 - Gas - Fuel Injection - Turbo - Vin: X - Sportline Lowering Kit - includes 4 Coil Springs - Front w/1" Drop - Rear w/1.3" Drop - 591+5481"

I'm going to pick them up today and do the install tomorrow. They also have a rear sway.

The suspension setup is NOT the same - it is anything BUT the same. They both have the springs in the same place, if that's what you mean.

GM redesigned the steering knuckles (changing the roll center), spring rates, damping rates, and sway bars. The geometry is different than the SC.
