Miscellaneous CAI questions and such

Hey everyone. First off I want to say thanks for all the wisdom and generally hilarity on this website. CSS.net is something I check out every day. The people who contribute to this web site truly make it something great.

Ok, on to the reason for my post. Yes, I did try to search for these answers but I couldn't find anything too specific. The bottom line is my 2.4L SS is getting boring. From what I have read on here when I have searched, CAI is one of the first mods people have done. So my questions are as follows:

1. Is the GMPP CAI 2.5" or 3"?
2. Does Rebel Autoworks make a CAI for the 2.4L? I searched on their site and it appeared that they only cater to the 2.0L S/C. Maybe I am wrong however.
3. What about the K & N CAI? I know they make one specifically for the 2.4L but is it any good?
4. With the CAI, I know some people are getting throttle body adapters that either act as a spacer (I believe?) or a larger 3.5" throttle body...more air of course being a good thing. Would this be a good combo to pair up with the CAI?

Keep in mind that I can get the GMPP CAI for cost due to the fact that the place that my pops works at a place that purchases a lot of items from a GM dealer.

Any help with these questions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The K&N is technically a cold air intake. Its a short ram with a heatshield. A true cold air intake, like the Injen or AEM, goes down into your fender/front bumper, and draws cold air thats far away from the engine. The K&N IS however, one of the only intakes designed specifically for the 2.4SS.

RAW does in fact make a really nice cold air intake for the 2.4SS. I can't find it on their website either, but it def does exist. For pics just check the intake thread stick in the top of the 2.4L performance section.

Im not sure about the GMPP intake, but I believe its 2.5", but much like the K&N, it too is just a short ram intake w/ a heatshield. But I must say it is the most restrictive intake out there, as it only draws air from above, just under the hood, whereas the K&N short ram for instance, draws air from all directions.

If you need any more help, look to the intake thread sticky. Its filled with helpful info.

GMPP Intake is 3" and draws air from the same place the stock box draws it in -- from the bottom. The top is open for appearance and seals (not securely) to the hood. The base under the large red filter is the original base -- you reuse the original base and replace the top with an open container.

K&N has a heat shield but surely draws in as much or more underhood heat then tha GMPP. Owners that have it like it.

The 06 and 07 2.4 TBs are 68 MM -- you would need to go FI to need much more then that and I haven't heard of anybody using a spacer plate successfully -- but I'll leave that question to anybody that might have a different opinion. 08 2.4L TB is different and I don't know the specs on it yet.

Tuning is the answer to performance gains. If you can find a tuner, or a tuner you can trust, you can go that route -- if not, you can go with the Jet Chip Modules (stage 1 or stage 2) to get rid of the low RPM lag.

Thanks everyone for the awesome info! I love the look of the GMPP CAI with the chrome tube. I wish I could see a picture of the RAW intake and also get a price.

I will look at the intake sticky. Thanks again for the direction and help.

In terms of installation, how easy was the GMPP intake because I think I am learning towards this one.

AEM, Fujita, Injen, RAW, Weapon-R and Z-spec all have a "chrome tube" intake.

Example, my AEM:

If it takes you more than an hour to install the GMPP intake you must have stopped to eat a 3-course meal Very easy to install.

Here's the sticky WhiteSSBalt is referring to:

Its sad to see that even though this extensive thread exists, and is even a sticky, people are still making new threads asking where they can get intakes and who makes intakes for our cars and such......

The following is a quote from the sticky that I am now reading. Man, do I feel like an ******* now.

Looking at all the different manufacturers there are out there, I like the RAW as it wraps down behind the headlight for good filter isolation from engine heat.
