Ignition locked! Anyone know why?

So last night I pull into a gas station, and stupid me realizing after I turned the car off, that I was on the wrong side. So I go to turn the car back on, and the key wont turn at all! I giggled the wheel as hard as possible, but nothing! The key WAS NOT STUCK!! The ignition was LOCKED. I could take the key out, and put it back it, but it would not turn at all. (the ignition it self not the engine) I tried everything from trying to look for that "plunger" thing under the steering wheel, calling OnStar (which was no help at all they said they would only tow it to a tow truck lot not my house wtf am I paying them for?!) and unplugging the battery. (twice) All nothing. Then my dad came. I asked him to bring me the spare key in wonder that my pass 3 key is malfunctioning. But that wasn't it either, cause the spare key wasn't working as well. So now standing there with ALL my windows open, not knowing what the hell to do, and cursing all over the place, I decided to try disconnecting the battery for the 3rd time. And then it finally became unlocked!!!!!!!!! Ugh!!! Does anyone know why my car did this???

So let me get it right. Your key wouldn't come out of the ignition but you could move it around in the the different positions. like accesory, on, etc? if so i would say check your fuses and if not do you have an auto?

No no no. I could take the key OUT of the ignition. The key was NOT stuck. The ignition it self was locked, and the key wouldn't turn at all in the ignition.

No aftermarket system, and 5speed. I suppose it could be the alarm? It's been acting screwy lately. Sometimes it won't chirp, some times it will. Sometimes there's a clicking sound and my headlights flicker. Or the alarm (well it uses the horn) beeps outta control and wont stop for a couple of seconds. It's just screwy sometimes. Could that be the culprit? I wonder why it does that... gotta bring it to the dealer and see why it's doing that. Stupid alarm..

So, I guess no one knows what the problem was? :/

yes you turned the wheel after pulling the key just wiggle the steering wheel and try turnning the wheel at the same time and it will come unlocked.

I did try this, to the point where I was almost breaking the steering wheel. I put all my weight down on 1 side, tried to turn the key but nothing. I wiggled it back and forth violently, and still nothing. It's got to be the alarm, cause at one point the car with the lock around it light was flashing and then at one point it was steady and then sometimes it wasn't on. I don't know, it was acting weird. -_-

it prolly thinks its being stolen and is locking itself up. are you using your key to get in or using the fob to unlock the doors ?

i disconnected the battery and waited about 2 minutes and it finally worked. i don't know why it thought it was being stolen though all i did was remove the key for 1 second then put back in and tried to start and it wouldn't turn at all
