Trying to find a Tech 2 for VIN Relearn in SoCal

Hi everyone,

Here's my situation: The AUX jack on my 2007 Cobalt LT head unit broke, leaving me without my precious music. My father happened to be parting out a 2006 HHR LT, and let me have his unit - as far as I can tell, it's the exact same radio (single disc MP3), darker face plate.

When I replaced the radio, I ran into the "Locked" message, and did my research to find out that I need to plug in a Tech 2 scanner and do a VIN relearn on the new radio.

I called every dealer in the Los Angeles area, and the prices ranged from $57-135 for them to do it. When I went out to the $57 one, they told me my particular radio would be $113 to do the job.

I would much rather just find someone in the LA area (all the way out to Anaheim, if I need to) with a knockoff scanner and pay them to let me use it for 10 min.

Any takers?

For the record there are other scan tools besides the Tech2 that can vin relearn the radio's in GM vehicles.

I have a Launch Diagun and it works fine for radio vin relearns.

Oh, that is interesting. I wish the Launch wasn't still more expensive than paying the dealership, since I really just need the one time use. But thanks for the idea, I should look into what other scan tools out there might do the trick.
