lets say you wanted to fiberglass, carbon fiber, paint, or put in a triple gauge pods in your piller. would that be dangerious if you hit something and that air bag went off?

well if you have side curtain airbags ive heard it is. and when you think of it it probably is because the pillar is gonna shoot at your face lol

if the question is: would that be MORE dangerous than just the stock plastic pillar exploding near your face...um...not really.

 

You would want to custom fab a hole in your new pillar the same as the stock little round "airbag" thing, for optimum results. Otherwise, the bag may not deploy properly, and do more harm then good.

Your best bet would be to use or find a place that will use your stock pillar and fab two more slots in it for pods.

 

Exactly. It doesn't make a difference if gauges on it or not, it's the same pillar (technically) and it's still in the same spot. I really doubt that GM (or the safety board) would allow a A pillar to come and hit you in the face when the side airbags go off.
If, for whatever reason, it did come off, the way the airbags are located, the pillar would most likely swing out and over towards the windshield (kinda like a big left turn).
But like someone else said, if you're driving down the road and guy in a Mack truck runs a light and slams into you, that little gauge pod is probably the least of your worries.

 

That little stock airbag thing your talking about is just a cover where a screw holds the top of the pillar in. Aftermarket pillar pods come with this piece as it mounts the same as factory. And using the stock pillar and fabbing two more slots in it for pods would be the same as just buying an aftermarket one. the final result is the same thing.

 

actually, the airbag doesnt deploy from the little round hole, it pushes the pillar out of the way and comes right toward you, the pillar should go toward the windshield

so what if it was more beefy like carbon fibered or something with resin as long as the attached screw part isnt reenforce it should break off and hindge twards the dash and windshield correct? from what im reading?
