99 Corvette 6 speed

Some guy at my golf club rolled in with a new car. He just got a stock 99 corvette 6 speed hard top and he let me take a spin in it and I wasn't really blown away. I just liked the rwd a lot more then our cars. I did about a quarter mile run or so and got it up just over 100 and it felt similar to my car. BTW his car only had 4300 miles...

Its mint!

I told him once I get all my **** installed I will let him take my car for a spin and maybe even a little race...I will have Header/Dp, CAI, 2.8, 60's, and tuned. I dont expect to pull on him, but I think I could hang...

What do you guys think?...and yes I searched and found a similar thread. Also I looked up specs of his vette and 0-60 in low 5s and 1/4 mile in 13.6 at 107.

different cars feel different. Feeling fast doesnt always mean its fast, and not feeling fast doesnt always mean its slow.

I think I talked him into going to the track with me. So that should make for a fun night. He isnt gonna mod it, he just likes his expensive toys. He's got a denali, bentley continental gt(AWESOME), and now this...so I think this is his summer DD...lol

dude vettes don't feel like there moving you to fast cause the engine is just so smooth but before you know it your going 80 the engine pulls the car so easy.

Ok...I know corvette is a better car then my cobalt and I wish I had one. With my mods I plan on installing in the next week or so I am just wondering how I will stack up against his car. I was hoping that people(similar mods to me and raced a similar corvette) could tell me how they did.

I understand that my car doesnt even compare to his vette, but when he drives my cobalt I am hoping he will be pleasantly surprised...

that body style dates back to 1996 and all of them were over 300hp.

i'm not saying that you didn't pull one, but bear in mind, most of those cars are now 100 year s old with 100k on the clock and possibly questionable condition.

for example, take a look at camaro or mustang that's ten years old, most of them are beat half to **** and belong in a scrap yard.

I bumped into him tonight I took him for a spin (0 to 80 mph then shut her down) and he said it felt really quick to him, but he said he would beat me on the top end. Don't worry I agreed with him on that....V8. I cant wait to get my **** installed and really surprise him...

The 99's have the LS1 motor in them, and with that motor in a Camaro and Trans Am its a low 13 second car, you figure the Vette is lighter and has better aerodynamics, so its a high 12 second car.

So what kind of car do you have? And in the real world, the average car runs mid 14's in the 1/4 mile. So your chances of beating the average car in the world is pretty good if you're running 13's.

i agree, a 13 second car is getting there, but i wouldn't call it really fast. but even still, if you have a 13 second car you'll be quicker than 95% of the cars you come across on a daily basis.

yes.. but cars you come across on a daily basis arent intended to be fast..

The more time you spend at the track, the slower you'll think 13s are..

That's pretty optimistic. I would guess the average is more in the range of 15-16 seconds.

i wouldn't even be that optimistic. i'd say it's more like a high 16 into a 17. slower now that gas prices went up and more and more people are buying BS little smart cars
