05 SS/SC vs 05+ Mustang GT
Reading some of these mustang threads reminded me of when I went to the track for test and tune. I'm getting this from memory so the times may be off a little.
I was watching this guy, who was not wearing a helmet, in his 05+ stockish looking mustang GT running 14.0-14.2. I was eager to run him so when I finally got my chance I was able to surprise him. I nailed the tree with a .030 reaction time and scooted down the track with a 14.0* ET. During the pass he caught me at the line and edged out a victory. He went rather quickly down the return road afterwards. I just cruised at their posted limit. When I got my slip I noticed he had about a .2 RT and ran 13.7*. When I passed by him in the pits I gave him a thumbs up for a good race but he just ignored me and left me hanging.
I guess he was told he had to wear a helmet after that because on his very next pass, with helmet on, ripped a 13.4 just to let me know he'd been taking it easy. He ran mid 13's the rest of the day....

thats true I look stockish also, I wanted to ask if he had anything done to it but he'd have none of it from a guy who owns a 4banger so I let it be....
Stock lukin can be a problem... i have a wrx that ran mid 12s on street tune and it luked stock except for a huge fmic but from a side or behind it luked factory.... it was nice to rape up on 03 cobras n **** in town but at the same time u had kids in pos's that would try to race u.. lol

I would leave your ass sitting behind in your stupid ass can tune/intake "i think it runs high 12s" 3v.
Ive posted my mods and times in 2 different forums you are a member of, go find them.
So lets get this straight, I'll go get a 50 shot, and then I'll race you. That seems pretty fair. Hell I could probably just get some LT's, cams, and a dyno tune and beat your nitrous powered car. Hell, that is a certainty, not a probably.
a guy I know went 12.30s stock, with a x-pipe and a CAI broke freakin 11s, on the stock pulley and tune, those are some quick cars, if I could afford the insurance, I wouldn't be picking up a ss t/c cobalt today

Props to you for showing him what's-what with the SC's!

Well, my stock looking V6 S197 doesn't look like it runs low-14's, but it does. This forum doesn't allow me to use my regular sig pic because it is too large, but here it is:

Frank, it would be more accurate to say that there are many stock S197 GT's that run high-13's to low-14's. I know - I've beaten them with my V6. But they are capable of running mid-13's if the driver can cut a decent 60' time. And there are lightly modded ones in the high-12's.

I raced a bunch of different new Stang V-8's at Test/Tune nights over a 14 year period. Modding them, racing them, modding them, racing them.
So I've seen it all when it comes to what people "say" a car runs stock, versus what their car ran when it actually "was" stock. Been there/done that ...
First off, let me point out that your "mid 13's with better traction" doesn't wash. C&D got their 13.8 with a 1.9 0-30 time (and in case you didn't know a lot about racing, that means they already got VERY good traction). Details, it's all in the details 28H/U.
Also, ANYONE can run ANY ET in the 1/4 - if they're properly modded. But I'm talking stock here (and by stock, I mean stock). A modded vehicle would include:
- Lightening The Car - removing seats/spare/insulation, sway bars, etc.
- Altering The Suspension - softer rear springs/disconnecting sway bars to promote "squat" on launch (RWD), traction bars, different shock/strut combo, etc.
- Running W/Non OEM Tires - Street/Strip Tires, Drag Tires, Narrower Front Tires (RWD), Soft Compound Auto X tires, Shaved Tires, etc.
- Gear Changes - I've seen people go from a 3.08 to 3.73's and still call their car "stock"
- Shifting Techniques - powershifting lowers ET's if the car maintains traction, but it's not done by everybody (and it's certainly not done by the car testers) so I disqualify those cars as well when referring to "stock" times
- Weather/Temperature Control - C&D auto-corrects to specific atmospheric conditions, so running on a freezing cold night, keeping 10lbs. of ice on the intake in between runs, or adding any number of other cooling mods is not what I accept as stock either
And that's the short list.
I could go on about about Reflashed ECU's, Computer Chips, Deep Staging to effect run, etc., etc., etc.
So when I see a supposedly "stock" vehicle running 1/2" faster than tested times, I smell a rat.
And more often than not, I'm right ...
Frank, the other issue is the fact that you'll rarely see a true "stock" vehicle run at the track. If the owner is taking the time to race at the track, he/she is most likely into racing and will want to go faster. That means he/she will begin modding the car - tune, CAI, gears, better tires. You know the basics where more folks start. And people will talk BS - be it at the track or God forbid an internet forum where there is ZERO accountability. Whether it's lying about their ET's, or the mods they've made to their ride, it's internet benchracing at its worst.
To clarify, I consider a 13.6 ET to be mid-13's, and that's been done by truly stock S197 GT's. Not all of them, mind you, but it has been done. And unlike some other members here who will argue ET's til they're (Ford) blue in the face, I just wanted to comment for the educational benefit of the members. I am a car enthusiast, so I appreciate the guy who is gunning for lowering his ET's. I prefer domestic cars, but I respect a foreign car when done tastefully.
