Official launch date/contracts made with other dealers etc.
Sometimes GM will state a specific date for cars to be sold, and will try to supply all its dealers with these cars so everyone has one for sale on the specific day. In order for all the dealers to get the cars, shipping can take weeks and some get cars far in advance.
Happened at my dealership with the last Z06 Model. they had one hiding in the service bay for a week.
osmose 02-16-2005, 04:34 PM i can't wait to see an actual production model;it may end a lot of the speculation. I want to see pics of the prduction version so we know exactly what we will be getting. I'm sure i'm not alone here either. Lots of pics and quick.

MikeSS 02-16-2005, 04:57 PM Thats awesome! looks even better then I thought. The rims look sweet too.
Now I wonder how my front license plate will attach.
CoolCobalt_NY 02-16-2005, 05:08 PM It's 5:10pm and I didn't hear anything from my dealer about a build date yet???
I want my car.. HM! <--- saying that in a kids voice and stomping foot!.. lol
osmose 02-16-2005, 05:20 PM There's no hole in the center ot that front lip?? look at Dmans Sig above and then look at the pic. They changed the lip, looks worse now.
Thanks for the pics by the way, i want to see the interior now, come on , what can i say i'm demanding. :-D
And what's the deal with the Saranfire???
I have a Silver LS Coupe in stock here at our dealership outside of Philadelphia.
If someone can tell me how to add pictures to this thread, I have good pics of it.
First, you need to upload the photo to the Internet. You might want to try something like MSN Photos or even Yahoo! Photos. Once that's done, just click the picture icon in the "reply to thread" window and it'll walk you through the steps. ;)
johnkb8 02-16-2005, 05:37 PM ok we need more than 2 pics, how about like 2 0, yes 20, any, just more, please i need more pics of that :cssNET:

And what's the deal with the Saranfire???
I think it's just the angle that the shot was taken from, that's why you can't see the lower cutout.
I was also wondering what was up with the saranfire?
johnkb8 02-16-2005, 05:55 PM i really dont think the SS in the pic, i know its bad anlge, but don think it has cut outs in lower bumper on the lip of it, please prove me wrong and get better pic OF THAT CAR, thanks
bbirk 02-16-2005, 06:03 PM It really looks like there is a lower small cut-out because the line seems to stop in the middle of it.
mcz34man 02-16-2005, 06:22 PM OH YEAH!!!! I can't wait any longer!!!!
thomaschevy 02-16-2005, 06:24 PM It really looks like there is a lower small cut-out because the line seems to stop in the middle of it.
The LS Coupe that I have has 3 small dimples on the front bumber. You need to drill the holes out for the liscence plate screws.
mcz34man 02-16-2005, 07:25 PM nice pics lets see the interior!!! :cssNET:
RedSS 02-16-2005, 08:51 PM This is great news. My dealer (50 miles from Lordstown) predicted that they'd ship first to the sticks (no offense). Appears he was right.

JonyyB 02-17-2005, 10:55 PM Why is it so dusty? And why is the sunfire in shrink wrap? It already has tags on
osmose 02-17-2005, 10:59 PM ^ ^ ^this is just a guess but i bet he washed it before a show and didn't want it to get dirty, that's the only thing that makes sense.
I am still waiting on interior shots of the production model.
PygmySurfer 02-18-2005, 12:12 AM The grille doesn't look quite right on this, either. On all the SS pics I've seen before, there's a diamond-pattern shape to the grille, this one looks like the grill is some bars going across, like the other models. I also kind of wish the SS logo was on the other side (over the supercharged logo) like we've seen on previous pics. Finally, why isn't the exhaust tip chrome? Unless the one in the pic is just covered in dirt...
Vendian 02-18-2005, 12:34 AM It looks like the SS Supercharged logo is on both sides of the car. Also, I hope that is just dirt on the exhaust, but it doesn't look likely. I think thats just normal. Like this picture shows here, it seems it would be slightly larger, and not so thin looking:

Actually, I meant the logo on the back - in the picture posted above (and in some of the pics in the brochure I picked up), it's next to the word Cobalt. Other pics I've seen online (and in the same brochure) have it on the opposite side of the trunk, above the Supercharged logo.

I'm glad you can decide! I'm still unsure whether to go red or blue. I have an '03 Silverado in blue right now (it looks almost the same colour), so I may pick red just to have something different. We'll see.. :)

Vendian 02-18-2005, 01:13 PM wow, your right. It looks way better to have the SS part on the other side, I totally agree. BTW I'm going to the dealership tomorrow (Saturday) to look at it. I'm going to bring my 4mp Olympus Digital camera and take like 50 pictures. That's of course if they let people see it. I'll call first. Expect a link to lots of pictures soon!!!
PS, I'll get nice interior shots for you all.

I could of sworn he said it was 'zone' chevrolets car or something, and they might not have it anymore. So I'll find out and get back to you guys.

MikeSS 02-22-2005, 03:56 PM I don't suppose you can see where the cars are going in Canada?
CSTABILE 02-22-2005, 05:15 PM no one has the car just yet. the car they had was a zone reps car we get them all the time. lucky get a free car every six months. there are some in transit but none have landed at dealers to sell yet .
cobaltchris 02-22-2005, 06:32 PM That's correct - The first one I saw get a VIN# was the Campbell Chevrolet in-transit.. i checked the Delivery status and it's due to arrive march 2nd or on about there.

cobalt chris i called the dealer and thats not even theirs some how it got into the system but that was an ordered car, as soon as it arrives it will be gone, they dont expect to get another one for a few weeks
Vendian 02-22-2005, 07:53 PM So I guess we're not gettin any pics?
I'm not sure. I am going to call them back soon, but I have been really busy with work and school. I have this coming Saturday off completely. I'm going to give them a call back about Friday to make sure before I make the trip Saturday. If they do have it definately expect pictures this Saturday.
cobaltchris 02-22-2005, 07:59 PM All are naturally pre-orders, but not all may be sold. Remember, production started on the 16th, they get built, they get VIN#' then they get a price. If any of you want one, the dealer will be glad to negotiate with you (possibly not), and you can place a deposit so NOBODY else does before you - you can do that over the phone. I work mostly with Internet Buyers (shoppers), and have sold many cars before they got here. It is also possible for another dealer to DEALER TRADE, but folks this is a Bread and Butter car for the dealership, so many will not even consider trading... after all it's a car that will DRIVE TRAFFIC and there's nothing more a dealer needs, than traffic.
PygmySurfer 02-23-2005, 02:39 AM I don't suppose you can see where the cars are going in Canada?
I just ordered mine yesterday (Arrival Blue, Blue seat inserts, Sunroof - I think that's it for options). The dealer told me they'd ordered a few already, and expected to get them in April. So, it sounds like it'll be awhile. The dealer informed me they're going to the US first, so we have to wait a bit longer.
Fortunately, my lease isn't up til July, so I'm in no hurry (they said they can get me out 3 months early, so if it arrives sometime in May, I'll be all set).
OK, changed my mind. Saw the Orange today, so I switched my order from Arrival Blue Metallic to Sunburst Orange Metallic :)

Yeah, my dealership has 2 cars coming on pre-order. Mine is built March 7, and the other is built April 10th. I can't wait!
AutoXer 02-23-2005, 04:09 PM Maybe you fellow Canucks can tell me whether an LSD is available? I've searched around the forums, but it's hard to differentiate the U.S. info from the Canadian.

So I guess you have access to GM Dealerworld....I saw what you saw but I don't see the need to give out the invoice..

I asked my dealer this, and they tried to find out. I even gave them the code that's been posted here (G85), and they still weren't able to find anything. So, as far as I can tell, the LSD and Recarro seats aren't available for us Canadians. If anyone finds out differently, please let me know :)
It's also worth noting that the package isn't available when you build a car on any of the GM websites (US and Canadian). There isn't even mention of it on the sites. I'm curious if it's really available at all.. :)

OK, since this was driving me crazy, I've called GM to ask. Someone is supposed to call me back, once she finds out. The number I called was 1-800-463-7483 (Hit 1 for english, 1 for products, then I think it was 2).
Once I hear back, I'll let all my fellow Canuckleheads know :)

I felt giving out the invoice is no problem at all, since I work with savvy Internet Customers, a few things I do for my customers is #1 Don't BS them, #2 Give them all the details. If someone thinks they can walk into a dealership and buy one of the Supercharged for Invoice, they will be nicely directed back to where they came from, I am sure.
Besides, this information is available and I felt it might show people that this car will not be badly priced. Anytime a dealer hides information, we created a chasms, and that's why I prefer building bridges.
What you see the need for may not be shared by others, but I appreciate the comment.

In the US, the invoice has to be released by the manufacturer, in canada however, this is not the case. Now all we need is for someone with with GM access to the Canadian invoice to post it on here. ;)
cobaltchris 02-24-2005, 05:11 PM If production for ALL Cobalt Supercharged Started up the 16th in the USA (where all will be made), and nobody here has them yet in the USA - I really do not think Canada has any either. If someone can produce a VIN# on the Cobalt SUPERCHARGED, I'd be a little more than surprised.

As you said I dont see the need to offer. If I'm asked that may be a different story but the invoice still is not for everyone.. You are correct about internet buyers being savvy so I guess as the internet guy you have to work a little different then I do..I have to make a living if I dont tell someone the invoice it does not mean I'm "bs"ing them. The Cobalt is a great car if you can build value and show what a superior car this is the people will pay.. we created a chasms, and that's why I prefer building bridges..
What a tired cliche....How long have you been selling cars? The guys who hammer you for below invoice are usually csi nightmares.....The people who understand the value of the car not just the dollars and cents are more loyal and happy... So keep on building value and forget about the invoice and hold back and whatever else they read on the how to buy a car websites..

195 EBONY LEATHER, BLUE INSERT 100 RENAISSANCE CENTER

So I don't know what you all cut-and-pasted.
In my area, we have about 14 Chevy dealers within 20 miles, including the #1 Chevy Dealer in the Country, so for us, building value is no problem, we sell more Chevy's in our area than any other area in the USA, but we have to compete and sell at, near or under invoice with the In-The-Driveway program where I usually put all my customers, and that is to give them GM Supplier pricing (usually under invoice), simply becuase it get's them the best deal, and puts $150 flat commisions in my pocket versus the $75 and $100 Mini Deals everyone else gets.

Exactly. That is how much weight the chassis can handle. So you, your shit, fuel, friends, etc, better not exceed that.

PygmySurfer 02-25-2005, 03:13 PM OK, I finally heard back from GM. I was told the Limited Slip Diff/Recaro seat package is code W2E, and its called the Recaro Performance Package. The GM rep told me this is a new package and the dealers won't see it in their systems, but it is available.
I didn't get a quote on the price, my dealer is looking into that for me right now. Also worth noting, the GM rep told me Cobalt production for the 05 model year is almost over, which seemed kind of odd to me considering SS production only started a week or so ago. She said I might be better off waiting for an '06 model. With my lease being up in July, that's probably not going to work for me :) Anyway, hopefully they'll be able to add it to my order :)

OK, now I have bad news. My dealer phoned Oshawa for pricing info, and he was told the package isn't available in Canada for '05. Even worse, he said there's currently only 400 and some odd SS models slated to be built for Canada, and there's already 700+ orders in the system. He can't even guarantee I'll get one. He was also unable to obtain pricing info for that option for the '06 model year.
As for that little bit about end of production, he said it sounds like production will end in June, they'll get a week off, and start on '06 models in July.
I'm having him call the rep I spoke with at GM now to clear some things up.

Sounds like they are feeding you the lines...sorry but I have never heard of a entry level Gm car with this kind of lack of supply and supposedly so much demand...99% percent of the time they have so many sitting on the lots that the dealer practically throws the car at you...dont listen to dealers...there just trying to create hype about the car so when amazingly they are able to get you one your more than willing to pay full price

Maybe, but what's the point in trying to create demand with me? I've already ordered, and I've already priced it out. I'm pretty much paying MSRP minus employee discount.
Remember also this isn't an entry level car. We're talking the SS, not the whole Cobalt line. I can see GM having a bunch of regular Cobalts on the lot, but the SS is almost a whole different car, really.
They'd better have it though. My lease is up in July, and I don't really think there's much else that appeals to me. I was initially thinking about the G6, but when I started to give the Cobalt a chance, it really caught my attention. Maybe they should give me a Saab 9-3 if they can't meet demand :)

...I would never pay msrp for a new car...especially not an entry levl car...ya ya I know its the SS but you have to remember its just a nicer looking version of the saturn ion redline...which hasnt exactly been flying off the shelves...remember this car is not a corvette z06

Well, I'm also leasing, so I'm not exactly paying MSRP.. I don't think there's as much room to fanagle over price as there would be were I purchasing.. and the employee discount knocks about 3 grand off, so I'm pretty happy with what I'd be paying.
Vendian 02-26-2005, 02:20 PM F*** Yes! I called back the dealer today and they have the car in the showroom. I'm taking my camera, and I'll take 10000 pictures if they let me. Booyah. They will be up tonight. w00t.
