Info for clutch swap!!!!
Info for clutch swap!!!!
Possibly this can be the place to find info and ask questions. I am currently waiting on my LSD so I can install my clutch. I went to the dealer today to get the pilot and release bearings on order and I found some helpful info. They told me and showed me the diagrams and there were no pilot or release bearings in the picture or anywhere.
So the guy called over another guy who is the most knowledgeable person and he searched through the parts and such. He said this car does not have those bearings it has the clutch actuator which could have the pilot bearing inside, he wasn't 100% sure since it was a new model.
The service manual says when a whining sound is heard when clutch is engaged or disengaged then replace release bearing; Refer to clutch actuator cylinder replacement. I'm guessing that when installing a new clutch the whole actuator should be replaced but that unit is $96 my price.
Can anyone shed some light on this, supply part numbers or just help in general.

On my cavy there was no polit bearing ether and the release bearing was part of the actuator. If that old of a car has that set up im going to say the cobalt is that same way. most new cars are that way.

I beg to differ! Why change a part that works perfect and only had 1600 miles?? Just wondering.
By the way, aftere 800 miles, my SPEC clutch is now perfectly quiet, broken in and works GREAT!!

It might not be required but i would rather spend the money and not have problems than take a chance and have to re-install it at a later date. The clutch company recomends it but usually clutches are changed at 1,600 miles either. I would do it in any case just for future protection.
Gotcha. Now did you have to drop the sub frame and trans? How much time did it take? I have my lift, but my service manager is a bitch and he cries if I'm using a bay for more then 4 hours.
