Did I just waist 50 bucks on this filter? I tried installing it yesterday just thinking it was going to be simply just replacing the old filter with the new one. The old one fits perfect inside the air box, but the new one does not grasp onto the 3" wide opening where the sensor and it sticks out to much so where I cant screw the bottom on.

I was wondering if anyone had a airbox mod like mine and experienced the same problem as me?

 

leave the bottom off, just make sure it is snug on there put a clamp on it to be sure.

 

Is it a cone or the drop in replacement?

Really? this wont effect anything? Is this how its supposed to be? What about water getting onto the filter getting it damp?

 

the bottom part is supposed to be left off, don't worry about water, unless you drive through a river you shouldn't have a problem.

 

Lol, what about a drive in car wash with underbody wash? THATS THE ONLY thing im worried about.

 

I ran that exact setup and never had a problem, i went to car wash's and it rains pretty good in MI

 

Is the part number on the K&N box say e0777 or something like that?If it does say that it is just supposed to pop in and then you can put the bottom back on.I had that same filter and you had to work it a little to get it on.

Okay now I know that the bottom is supposed to come off and stay off. And how did you all take out the air box? The two bolts that are on the side are freaking hard to get to.

I am assuming that I take out the whole box to install it right? How do I tighten the clamp ring to make it stay on without falling off? the box is so cramped to put a driver in there. \

Do I even have to take out the box?

 

Some people have drilled a small hole so they can tighten the clamp up , while other say they have been able to tighten it without drilling. So really it's up to you or the tools you have on hand.
