air conditioner never gets cold...
title speaks for itself, its like just the fan is on.
never gets even a little cool.
the a/c button light is on, but i get nothing. this is pretty bad because i always have it on the baby in the back because its like 109 degrees here and today he was all sweaty and hot... poor kid...
any ideas? how do i check if the clutch is engaging the a/c?

when they service your a/c...its a bit pricey....i seen places charge up 200 but if you shop around you can find it for mayb 80
or you can learn and do it yourself......check out your local autozone or kragen

Since you do not know much about the AC system.
Take it to a shop. Recharge is normally an hour labor. It really takes that long sometimes if properly done.
Find a local AC shop and take it there for a recharge. Safest way, better for environment, and properly done.
That is just for the can of refrigerant.
That does not include gauges which is a MUST. Do not do the oh lets just put my hand in front of the vents. You need to have a knowledge of what pressures are suppose to be at. And those pressures change with the outside air.

Just use a small hex wrench and bleed it til you start seeing the refridgerant spray on your hand a bit. (can cause irritation if you have girly skin). Shake the can vigorously and spray it in until it goes to the proper amount. Now some aerosal is in there too so it may not be as dense as you want. Also if it is hot out and you hear the clutch disengaging + reengaging you need to bleed it again. I generally bleed until i feel some freon come out, then wait, bleed again until i feel freon, then wait.
Just repeat until you have dense enough freon to come out, and be in safe limits of the pressure gauge that comes with the can. If it is hot out, make sure you dont fill too much and bleed it a little. More freon doesnt always = colder air. Sometimes the clutch will engage and disengage like crazy if you get too close to high pressure.
yea i tried to do mine with the guage and the can...and well it didnt work out to well...it worked ok for a week....but then it just went back to hot.....so yea.....our best bet is to take it to an a/c shop
o that makes sense now
just get 2 cans of the r134a refrigerant at autozone... they have a psi gauge on it. hook it up to your recharge valve underneath the Cold Air Intake right before the TB. If the gauge reads your full, its full of compressed air, not freon.

you probably have compressed air in there. The same issue happened with my wife's car until i fixed it.
EDIT: My a/c smells like mold, even after a cabin filter change. Anyone else experience this? Sry, dont mean to hijack. I just find it to be a bit related.

if ur ac is warm its leaking. it never goes bad. u need to get it charged up w/ dye then when it goes warm again u can bring it back they can find the leak w/ a uv light and fix it right its a waste of money to just keep filling it up.
nah my wife has a toyota and it does it every 2-3 years. If it is actually a leak.... it really isnt worth bothering over.
true. it just has a really small leak. its fine to keep filling it every 2-3 years but at the same time if it gets fixed u wont have to fill it till u get another leak if that even happens.
Plus i dont know what air conditioning doesnt leak. but fair enough if it leaks too much you gotta fix it.
mine works whenever it gets in the mood...
my overheating fans default on when i start it up normally now...
the dealer has no clue what it is... last time i was in... they said 'oh your antifreeze was low we topped it off and its fixed"
well that worked for a whoppng 5 hours and and then went out again... too bad the trick didnt work for me since its full.

my a/c wasn't cooling at all b4. have you tried turning on the a/c and the in car only circulation button, next to the defrosters? this worked for me, since the cars gets hot and the air from outside gets in your car the a/c doesnt really work. unless you close the outside vents by pressing the circulation button. this helps by keeping the straight cool air from ur a/c in you car only, and it keeps circulating it. try it.
