View Full Version : Heat Difference 2.5" vs 2.8"
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 01:25 PM i'm throwing on a 2.5" later this week and getting re-tuned, how much of a heat increase
(iats and iat2s) will i see any 1 have any logs from hptuners they can post??? after a 1-3 pull at the track i'm seeing about 152iat2 on the 2.8" how hot can i expect from the 2.5"?
06blackg85ss 08-24-2008, 01:27 PM with the 2.5 and stock cooling you'll be up @190-200 after 1 or 2 pulls. It generates some serious heat man
Super_SS 08-24-2008, 01:29 PM enough to say bye bye motor

Champ_ 08-24-2008, 01:29 PM is that c or f? ???

ha ya i NEVER EVER do back 2 back pulls though man always let it cool 4 a half an hour or so even on the street. gonna play with the meth mix some
red06s/c 08-24-2008, 01:32 PM Why do you wanna go that low anyways? When i drop im only going 2.7" lol
Maxim_X 08-24-2008, 01:32 PM Turn up the meth. I'd say 30* difference anyway
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 01:33 PM Why do you wanna go that low anyways? When i drop im only going 2.7" lol
toms coming out this way this week so i figured i wouldt waste a good trip;)

ah poor balt, dont forget that chances of ur belt starting to slip might increase cuz the pulley has slack now cuz its to small for the s2 belt
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 01:35 PM what mix of meth would be a good start point?
ah poor balt, dont forget that chances of ur belt starting to slip might increase cuz the pulley has slack now cuz its to small for the s2 belt
my belt was bought used and ran on a 2.5" for 8K miles w/ no slip. its been on the 2.8" for 700 miles

Oh ic, we are spose to meet up the weekend after labor day to tune for my meth.

nice u throwing the 2.7" on then tuning 4 meth?
red06s/c 08-24-2008, 01:39 PM nice u throwing the 2.7" on then tuning 4 meth?
nope, dont have the pulley or the 60's. Plus i think, that thos are the last things im going to do. I wanna do some susp. mods next.
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 02:11 PM bump
ralliartist 08-24-2008, 02:12 PM I seriously think that's a bad idea. If you are already seeing 150+ degrees, then you need to work on cooling stuff. a 2.5 pulley is gonna have you over 200degrees IAT at the top of 3rd like you sit. Good luck, but I think this is a horrible decision.
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 02:13 PM hmmm mybe a lil stronger mix of meth and a more aggressive tune will be a better option
I have seen 190 iats with my 2.8 lol I wonder where i would be with a 2.5  300 maybe
lsjwannabe 08-24-2008, 04:03 PM chris think in terms of capacity
cakeeater 08-24-2008, 04:05 PM is that c or f? ???
you better hope they're Fahrenheit. you'd be havin some serious issues at 152* C.
hungryhip-ccp 08-24-2008, 04:08 PM 2.5 will probably make you slower... honestly...
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 04:37 PM chris think in terms of capacity
elaborate
Super_SS 08-24-2008, 10:06 PM elaborate
to much air is being pushed threw the manifold and it cant keep up,so it builds up heat..
that was a guess..
BriantheLion26 08-24-2008, 10:11 PM 152 degree IAT2 seems pretty high even for a 2.8". I have a 2.9" and the last two track visits I had my IAT2 was about 20 degrees over my IAT2 at the line. It was usually high 90s to 100 and I would cross the traps at 115-120.
I know the smaller you go the more heat you get, but that seems like a big difference from just .1".
Do you have a log for a 1st to 3rd pull, basically a track run? I would like to know what your IAT2 is at the line and when you cross the traps with the 2.8".
If I were you, I would not drop to a 2.5". I would say 2.7" is the lowest I would go.
Zach06CobaltSC 08-24-2008, 10:12 PM brian are you running meth?
BriantheLion26 08-24-2008, 10:14 PM brian are you running meth?
Yes, 3 gph spraying 50/50 currently.
INDColtsFan18 08-24-2008, 10:16 PM how can i measure my iat2 temps, do i need a wideband?
is using coolant temps a reasonable way to tell if your getting to hot?
Zach06CobaltSC 08-24-2008, 10:17 PM no, your coolant temp has nothing to do with your iat1 or iat2, and neither does a wideband. Get an interceptor.

I use HPT on my laptop to measure. A aeroforce gauge is good too.
You won't have an issue with IAT2s, you are not a ss/sc.
No, coolant temps are not a good sign of getting hot. SS/SC's have a big problem with getting their IAT2s hot, air after the blower. That is why we always talk about IAT1s (before blower) and IAT2 (after).
INDColtsFan18 08-24-2008, 10:31 PM ok ty, i plan on going S/C after college. so im trying to learn as much as possible about everything.
Altiery54 08-24-2008, 10:34 PM ha good info brain way 2 teach the youngins:)
lsjwannabe 08-25-2008, 12:01 AM coolant capacity... :)
Champ_ 08-25-2008, 12:03 AM SO you saying more coolant it is getting recycled less ... thus having more time to cool down? Or am i on the wrong page?
Altiery54 08-25-2008, 12:05 AM ^^ u get the jist of it
i wonder w/ the extra h/e and stus new idea how that would fair
lsjwannabe 08-25-2008, 12:09 AM bingo

Fuck all that!
bobby71189 08-25-2008, 08:37 AM would a 2.7 be safe for an everyday driver if im running meth, option B, and a h/e?
Altiery54 08-25-2008, 08:40 AM ^^ with a good tune yes
BriantheLion26 08-25-2008, 10:31 AM typing>me
lol
i thought it was funny.
coopn8r 08-25-2008, 01:43 PM I am running the 2.6.. Only cooling is Meth on a small 3gph nozzle.. I am seeing 155 IAT2 temps after multiple pulls..
Dunno if that helps, bro.
Altiery54 08-25-2008, 01:45 PM ha i see that temp on my 2.8" with a 5gph nozzle. mybe i should get re-tuned and add more water. the mix is about 65/35 right now
Kibosh3 08-25-2008, 02:20 PM with a 2.8, i run 100% meth...just completed my tune for afr....11.8-11.9 afr at wot all through rpm band...at 23 degrees timing ...
playing with my dfco now...to save gas...lol :(
if i were u i would stick with the 2.8...way too many horror stories to risk jumping in feet first.
best of luck :)
coopn8r 08-25-2008, 02:48 PM I love my 2.6 :P
bluechevycobaltss 08-25-2008, 02:57 PM hmmm if you do decide to do this keep us updated id like to see what numbers you put down and hope your engine doesnt go POW
running more meth allows higher timing and more resistance to knock. the water portion is what gives you the cooling effect.
150* seems too hot for runnin a cobra h/e and meth injection and 2.8." check to see if your h/e pump is running.
