serious question???

ok so my boss is a bad influence on me. he has almost convinced me to buy another engine and built it on a stand. my goal would be around 500 hp. my question is which of the three cobalt motors are the strongest? and i'm serious. i thought it was the 2.2 but i don't know. looking for the strongest bottom end. i know its deff not the 2.0. thanks

I dont know of anyone that has lost a bottom end on these motors. Look at Paul, hes 414WHP on the stock pistons! Thats not even mentioning the bottom end....

The LSJ has a forged crank and rods...

Forged aftermarket pistons should seal the deal...

Anyways, the GM build books give ratings for each of the components and show what is needed for different power levels.

lol, what he said was QFT (quoted for truth)

I'd would for sure look at getting a 2.0L, that way you will have tuning and everything. Also a lower compression 2.4L would be awesome but might not hold as much power.

With the 2.0 L I'd build the head up with cams, retainers, and springs. Then port and polish the head. Throw a turbo on it and you would be in heaven. The piston will need to be forged and have a little lower compression.

with the 2.0 build it to do high revs. Like an 8k rev or more

What type of induction are you going to go with?

well i am not to sure which induction i am gonna go with just yet. i think that it would be awesome to have an LSJ with really big numbers but i just think that its gonna be harder to achieve. i thought that i read somewhere that the 2.4 out of the pontiac solstice is the stongest ecotec. i'm talking bottom end and top. i need the bottom end to be strong because i will more than likely through a 100 shot or bigger on it. obviously i will be replacing pistons. but i didn't know for sure about the rods and crank.

If you're completely building the engine I would believe that the more displacement you have the more room you have for horsepower gain.

exactly. as the old saying goes "theres no replacement for displacement" i would build my 2.0 but don't want to regret it. my goal is to drive this car everyday. so i want it to be reliable. if i build a 2.0 it'll be a little bit harder to make big power. but i dunno. it would be awesome to make big power with a stock blower 2.0.
