View Full Version : Vibes on TTR Engine and Tranny Mounts
drop-n-destroy 10-14-2008, 11:58 PM Alright I need some straight answers from those with solid engine mount and prothane tranny mounts from Turbo Tech Racing.
I just installed all three mounts and the vibes are terrible. Everything rattles! It is worse when at idle. I knew there were gonna be vibration but not this bad.
Do the mounts have a break in period and will the vibes go down and become less noticeable or will they stay the same for ever?
On the good side: no more wheel hop, shifting is smoother at high revs and normal driving, launching is great, so I cannot complain about that.
I would just like my daily driving/driver to be enjoyable. :)
Sharkey 10-15-2008, 12:03 AM the mounts will break in and the vibes will be less. give it 500 miles or so.
mrsilent13 10-15-2008, 12:18 AM sounds like fun...i still havent put mine in...but i will soon
D4u2s0t 10-15-2008, 12:21 AM did you do any research before you bought them? i think it's pretty common knowledge that your car will vibrate.
good news is you get used to it, and the vibes are worth the benefits from using them. so try to stick it out, and you'll just get used to them.

Yes I did do some research. I knew there were gonna be vibrations but not this many. I just wanna know if they will become less overtime (since the balt is a daily driver) cuz if they stay like this I'd probably go with an ingalls TD, my friend has one in his ss/sc and vibes are barely noticeable.
i just installed the front tranny mount. stopped wheel hop and vibes arnt that bad i recommend it

they get a little better, and you get used to them.
i have the ingalls, and had wheel hop even with the mounts untill i put on my eibachs. if you can get used to the vibes, i strongly suggest the motor mount over the ingalls.

you should also do the rear. what happens when you only do the front is all that extra energy is now transferred to the rear. if you don't want to to both, i would recommend going back to stock.
steddy2112 10-15-2008, 01:05 AM The vibes go to an almost stock quality after a few thousand miles on them.

pretty much.
only time i ever notice them is at very low rpms in higher gears. normal driving don't feel them at all really.
SI FTL 10-15-2008, 01:12 AM a little off topic. I apologize but howd u guys press in the tranny mounts? If u didnt do them where would u get them installed? I dont have a press.. Its my only thing holding me back!

I have a vice, and a TON of patience.
A can of wd-40 and pieces of wood help too.

On my old 2.4, the vibes were horrible.

i trimmed the lip off, and used a regular hammer. took about 30 seconds to tap in once the lip is off. the lip servers no purpose really since it's tight enough to not move, and there's nowhere for them to go.
steddy2112 10-15-2008, 01:24 AM Stomping them works if you are fat like me too

And what kinda consequences are we looking at w/the weight transferred to that rear? From what I understand if you do BOTH tranny mounts u stress the TOP too much and u start to break things, I'd imagine putting in only one mount would cause alot less stress on the other ones(if you dont plan to do them all). One of the tranny mounts gets rid of most wheel hop and the vibes arent bad at all even for the break in period.
I love the way the tranny mount makes the car feel in all but i dont drag race my car all year round so I cant see me having a need to have all three done when most of the wheel hop is eliminated already.

i probably did that a few times.
for me getting the old bushings out was harder than getting the new ones in though. it's not a very hard install, first time i ever did them took about an hour or so to do both, and i was taking my time because i was nervous about the engine falling on my head
steddy2112 10-15-2008, 01:33 AM Hey Kev, how hard is the back mount?
D4u2s0t 10-15-2008, 08:51 AM Hey Kev, how hard is the back mount?
back meaning towards the rear of the car? it's simple. if your car is the same setup as the others which i would think it is since it's the same tranny, just support the engine, take the long bolt out that goes through the bushing, then take the 3 bolts out that go through the subframe, then the whole piece should come right out. the harness for the rear 02 sensor is on the top of the mount (where the bushing is), so take that off before you unbolt the mount. once the mount comes off the car it's pretty much the same as the front, (as far as getting the bushing out and putting the new one in) just in 2 pieces and with a heat shield. since there's a few parts it may be a good idea to take a picture or make a diagram or something.
when you're putting it all back together, get it lined up, and put all the bolts in but don't tighten them all the way. sometimes it can be tough to line everything up if the engine shifts a little bit while the mount is off. other than that it's pretty straightforward, and you shouldn't run into any problems.
XgunsmokeX 10-15-2008, 10:44 AM i only got a engine mount and i got vibes but i don't notice them anymore and they did break in.

no need to press them in, lay the mount flat, grease up the outside of the insert (leave the center tube out), wedge it in at an angle as best you can, and use a small sledge hammer (5 lb.) at the high end and it'll pop right into place

i have over 10 k on them. the vibes go down, but not back to normal. it still vibrates at idle, but driving its not noticeable. you get used to it, its not that bad.

i pushed about half in by hand, then just used a flat head screwdriver to pry the lip in while applying force, once the lip is in just hit it with a hammer.
