I have always heard/read that you should not break in a motor with a synthetic motor oil.
The reason I ask this question is because I am about to cross 1000 miles on my TC.
I am debating if I should changing the oil now or if I should wait till my oil monitoring system says to.
If these motors are broken in at he factory, then mobil one was put in, I will wait until the oil monitor system say to.

Lots of cars come with synthetic straight from the factory these days. Since Chevy says use the oil monitor I assume they did some testing and feel comfortable with it running synthetic from the start.
I was in the same spot as you when I bought my Cobalt. I felt the need to do my first oil change early but once I thought about it I decided against it. The way I see it, if GM thought it needed to be changed early they would have said so. The fact that they give a 100,000 mile warranty should show that they believe their maintenance schedule is sufficient to protect the drive train from damage.
However, if you do change the oil early you certainty wont hurt anything. I can't even bring my self to go much over 5000 miles. My last oil change was at 5300 miles and I still had 40% remaining on my oil life indicator. I guess I still follow the old school oil change philosophy a bit myself.

I think I changed mine at like 2500 or something like that. Maybe 1500... I can't remember. I definitely changed it early though. 23,000 hard miles later and no problems whatsoever. Guess it didn't hurt it eh?
