Talking If you want a good laugh

Well today I started on installing the stock clutch kit into my cobalt to replace the torn up spec clutch and boy what a nightmare.

Im working with two older guys who know alot about mechanics and all but better with old cars and me and a friend who are learning all we can as we go.

So that 8 hour clutch swap is funny because if your a mechanic and you have all the proper tools you need it is an 8 hour job.

If your like us you will be halfway finished 10 hours later and have cussed enough to make a drunken sailor blush.

But man if you could see the Spec clutch and the bell housing area. Nice nicks and scratches all over the place and a couple of good gouges on the inside of the bell housing. Something mustve gotten knocked loose and raised hell but I have yet to see the disk, pressure plate and flywheel. That will be tomorrow and definitely will have some pics to add to the ensuing laughter.

Also found I need to replace the throw-out bearing before I can finish up. So lucky me gets to spend all morning calling around my podunk town for one. Wish me luck.

Take your time taking the 3 torq bolts out to get the TOB out cause we stripped them before. We've done 3 swaps so far including removing an Exedy Stage 3 that snapped all 6 assembly bolts. Everything just fell right out.

Yea well get this. Pulled the SOB out and open it up. The pressure plate is broken clean through at three places and I had next to NO clutch material left. How my car kept running for the past 2 and a half months I will never understand. But shes fixed now. Got the stock clutch back in and now Im having to get used to driving it again. Damn if it isnt grabby and it engages very quick.
