Anyone gut the cat in the factory downpipe?

Ok so I just bought the C/A v2 shorty header and really dont want to fork out the $$$ for a catless down pipe, so I was thinking that I would just knock the cat out of the stock dp would there be any issues with doing this, has anyone here did this if so how did you go about doing it?? I used a hammer and a peice of rebar to knock the cat out of the up pipe on my WRX when I had it and that was a bitch

I searched the site and could not find any info on this so any info would help

i know its tough to fork over money in these times but now is the time.
1. get a new dp, besides the manifold, the stock dp is the most restrictive thing on the car
2. do you have emission laws in your state? if yes stay with the cat
3. buy a zzp 3inch to 2.5 inch down pipe. it will bolt right up,thats my set up. i payed 150 with cat its worth it

I bought a gutted dp from a member on here and replaced the cat part with straight pipe and it sounds good with my GMPP exhaust.

i took a breaker bar and pounded the thing out. Changed the sound of the exhaust a bit. And yes it was a pain.

Just gutting the stock one sounds like dick.

Replacing the cat with a actual pipe seems like a good idea.

Is the down pipe stainless or mild steel?

Get a new dp and sell the stock one. People are looking for stock parts all of the time.

Edit: Get a usd dp from the forsale section. Maybe u can find someone that will trade u plus u throwing some cash on top of it.

I'd say it's a mild steel type. Then again I don't know metals too well.

I went to the muffler shop, they removed the cat and placed a pipe instead. They charged my $60 and here is what it sound like with the CA V1 header, Catlees GM DP & GMPP Sport Exhaust:

I had one of those catless pipes with the flex pipe, and that whistling sound was so annoying.
