Which Brake Pads
Which Brake Pads
I'm getting ready to put new brakes on my car and i'm thinking i will most likely get powerslot rotors. I'm just wondering what pads everyone thinks would go the best with them. I was thinking either Hawk HPS pads, Hawk Ceramics, or EBC Green Stuff pads? The car is daily driven and is driven pretty hard on back roads often so what does everyone recommend?
Well I know the Hawk HPS pads.....HPS stands for "High Performance Street". Never really looked into the Ceramics. I just know that the Hawk HPS pads were reccomended to me by PTuning and VIP Garage, both very knowledgeable local tuning shops that race professional in Time Attack and road racing events, and both use the HPS pads in their more mild class race cars.
I had some Greenstuffs on another car and they left 0 dark dust.
it was more of a light yellow dust that wipes off without harsh cleaners.
they are an organic mix, stop really well and are easy on rotors.

HPS is ahigh performance street pad, it made from what Hawk calls "ferro-carbon" its not a straight carbon or ceramic pad its got a metallic component to it. I just installed a set, very nice so far. Very smooth feeling....at very light pedal pressure they feel like stock, as soon as you apply a ilttle more pedal pressure they have a a nice strong bite that it pretty cosistent throughout the rest of the range of pedal travel
Hawk Ceramic is their "luxury" pad. it doesnt have the same amount of friction as the HPS but its designed to last longer.
In m experience Greenstuffs does like crazy.....but it is light colored and easy to clean as compared to other compounds. virtually all brake dust is easy to clean when its fresh however

I would have to say do the power Slots and the hawk HPS Pads,I have been very happy with this set up,And really almost no brake dust to really speak of..Another good upgrade is Stainless brake lines also..
I have the RedStuffs on now....initial cold stop requires a little pressure...
once warmed up thet bite real good.
Carbon metalic I think.
They leave dust.
I had some kevlar mets once....good pad, very little fade, great for high speed braking...
left alot of dust. Got them from TireRack.

Red stuff is NON-metallic. They actually leave less dust than greenstuff its just a different color, Redstuff is a better pad for most people, less dust, lasts longer, higher levels of "grip"
HPS is probably the longest lasting high grip pad youre gonna find for the street....its also probably the most popular hp stret pad out there, I can see why even after only 50 miles.

Yea the powerslot rotors and hawk hps pads were what i was thinking. The cheapest prices i found for them is 210 plus 56 for shipping. Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper to get them
Yellowstuff isnt really meant for autox, its a trackday pad, designed for much longer sustained high temps, and it doesnt develop max friction until warm, Greenstuff actually has higher friction level
Really? I called ECB and explained to them what I do with my car and they suggested the Yellowstuff. They said the green stuff was a OEM replacement that worked better with more initial bite then stock.
I can only think that they were erring on the side of longevity or perhaps that you stressed track events as opposed to autox, but green and red are both more suited to the very short workouts o autox because they work just as well cold as they do warmed up, whereas yellow while it is still respectable friction levels when cold and is safe for use as a street pad, it is more suited to the 15-30 lap workout provided by track days and HPDE, EBC's own literature and website say as much
How does the HP+ compare to the HPS pads? I know they are both ferro-carbon pads, but the HP+ is marketed as a Autox/track day pad and the plus is harder on the rotors.
Can't seem to find any solid data from their site...

I dont remember where I saw it but I distinctly recall that the major difference was in friction, the HP+ having a COF of roughly μ.08- .10 higher than HPS
