Should I buy one?

So I'm trying to decide if I should buy a new car at all, and if I do should that car be a Cobalt SS/TC? Here is my situation... I used to lease an '05 Cobalt SS/SC that I loved. When that lease ended, I bought a '96 z28 for pretty cheap because I was back in school and it was in mint condition with only 41k miles. The only thing I don't like about the z28 is that it's an auto. Now I'm back out of school and I have a little money that I could spend on a car but not much. It HAS to be under $20k, and the cheaper the better. I want it to be something faster than my LT1 z28 and my old SS/SC on a road course and it has to be a GM car cause that's all I buy. I could trade or sell the z28, but I'd rather keep it. As I see it, here are my options:

'08 Cobalt SS/TC with less than 10k mi for about $16k (yes i've found 2 like this)

'05 or '06 GTO with less than 40k mi for about $17k

'04 or '05 CTS-V with less than 40k mi for about $20k

C5 Corvette with less than 40k mi for about $19k

OR just continue to drive my z28 and save money for something more expensive a couple years down the road (New z28? C6 Corvette? Solstice Coupe GXP?)

ride what you have and save for a home, and look a little farther down the road and what will be coming like when you get out of school. you are not going to want a $400 a mounth car payment. and just remeber that cars are not holding the value they use to. so when you pay %15-20k for a car it is not going to be worth half that in a year or two.

Good advice but I have a house already. I'm 27 and just finished grad school.

Save your money, you may need it! But if I could and the insurance wasn't too high, I would go with the GTO

The solstice doesn't hold any luggage... none whatsoever.
It's a shame cause I think it's a great car.
Personnaly; I'd go for the most recent car.

I say GTO. FYI you will get a much better deal on a LS1 and they arn't much slower stock for stock. Add a cam + exhaust + tune and new shocks and you get something that is a a lot of fun.

Looks like most people are in the recession frame of mind and think I should save my money. I definitely see your point. However, one of the main reasons I'm considering buying something fairly inexpensive right now is so I'll lock myself into a $300/mo payment or less and not be as tempted to buy something brand new that's in the $600/mo range a year down the road. Spending money to save money... makes sense, right? :P

If you look hard enough you can find an 08 G8 GT for ~20k (10-20k miles), thats still an auto though. The value of them are tanking hard.
