I have a Horrible Knock!!
I was on the freeway trying to catch up with traffic and as I was ready to shift into 5th i accidently shifted into 3rd and red lined to the max. Now I had a horrible knocking noise and the car sounds like a lawn mower when accelerating. What could this be, the car drives around fine except for that knock

but seriously, i wish i could help
Maybe your car is trying to joke with you...
You know.. Like..
Knock knock...
Next time you drive, just ask... who's there?
It will stop... Or finish with the joke and send a piston out the hood. Lol

I had the same horrible knock when I was racing a mustang I took off badly and I heard a knock but it went oway when the car cooled off so I really don't know what it could be since mine went oeay lol
well Alex, it could be a few things, but in short they all pretty much involve an engine rebuild.
could be a wrist pin, connecting rod, ...i dunno too much about the particulars of the internals of an ecotec, but maybe the balance shafts...no matter what it is, it'll cost you some money

LOL i know i just remembered that.
I took a stick and I placed it around the engine trying to find the main area of the sound and put it against my ear and most of the noise is coming from the intake mani on the furthest right....facing the engine

Soooo... how fast were you going... because you would have had to have been going faster than like 120mph to really damage anything.
Oh wait... you have an LS... nevermind. You still would have had to have going very much above the speed limit.

If the sound is coming from the block... then it is very possible that you have a bent rod, although I don't think over revving would do that.. You should stop running the car ASAP. You are only further destroying your engine.
120 in 4th is like....almost redline on a 2.4SS which is same trans different final.

There aren't sensors built into your rods that pop up a CEL when they are bent.
A CEL doesn't come on when you bend a valve.
YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BREAK OUT YOUR MAGICAL HEARING STICK AND TEAR THE ENGINE APART! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
I'm glad you liked that.
