absolutly weird bogging...

so i posted a thread couple days ago in which i had a boggin problem with my car because of a cheap 25$ filter i put in and because of a dirty MAF sensor...today is 3 days later after all that and this is my story....i live in toronto and yesterday we had a crazy snow storm with wet snow and stuff... so yesterday i had an appointment with gm at 8am to fix the locks on my driver side door because they just stopped working(long story) so i got that fixed and came home....i got home around 10am and left my car in the garage all day. at around 6pm wen i wanted to go out i turn on my car and its boggin like a son of a bitch....at first i thought hmm maybe its just really cold ill let it warm up...but after listening to the car rev up to 3000rpm for about 10 seconds i got a little worried and shut off the engine...i culdnt figure out wat was wrong.....so i took out my intake i checked the MAF sensor and it was fine it was clean(since i just cleaned it about 2 days ago) i checked the filter and it was a bit wet on the outside around it...i shaked it off and let it a dry for a bit then i put it back on....then i cleaned my throttle body and put evrythign back together..i turned on my car and it was fine.... weird ****... what could this be a problem of?? you guys think some water got in but not enough to do damage??? should i get a hydro shield??? and if i cant wat now?? i cant drive my car in snow or heavy rain???? cuz i already did that for 2 years..and now im getting these problems??

I would think you might have some condensation on or in the throttle body that is freezing and holding
the plate open.
When you turn the key on to start ,one of the first things that happens is the plate is closed by the pcm
and rezeroed with you pedal position (something like that anyway).

If this zero position isnt closed all the way you would rev pretty high at idle and the car will run like
****.
Cant see it being the intake or filter ,Ive had mine on for two winters and all the down pours and never had a problem yet.

The only other thing it can be is the Intake filter is retaining moisture and freezing,(But a bit of oil on the filter would stop that from happening)

Put some gas line antifreeze in your tank or fuel conditioner, you might have bad gas.

well i know for a fact that most all gas comes from the same place, same distributers the differances are the additves they put in them, but the moister in the gas usualy comes from the under ground tanks at the gas staion, so it could be a bad tank of gas?

This has nothing to do with gas at all.
If you're car kind rev's and dies, revs and dies, and when you give it gas, cuts out and bogs and sputters, please read on..

No, this behavior wont harm you're car. I know friom experience. This is actually very common. 90% of the poeple with an AEM dryflow would tell you that.

You're filter was soaked and you're MAF is dirty. CHeck the inside of the pipe and see if you see water bead marks. The MAF is getting direct water spray from the gay hole in the wheel well that doesnt have a deflective louver. Make one... Thats what I did. Take the filter off and dry it out. Take the maf off an clean it with maf cleaner. Unhook you're black cable from the battery and reset the ecu. Make sure you have every 7mm screw in the wheel well in place and its SNUG.

SOLUTION: Buy an Injen hydrosheild. The new AEM intake for the TC put the maf down in the **** zone again and for that, I won't be buying. Theres also a little hole above youre fog light letting water in. Overall a pretty **** design. I rebuild my fukin wheel well and sealed it, hydro sheilded it etc.

Get a MAF test done though, you may have screwed up you're MAF..... They are 325$ canadian funds.... so put you're stocker on and play dumb at the dealership. If they give you trouble show them the shitty design of the inlet hole in the wheel well and let them know the maf cooked by getting water sprayed ONTO it , not INTO it. Worked for me :P

Get a hydroshield..... The location of the intake catches alot of water from the wheel well and the bottom of the car. If you feel around at the top of the fender where the plastic inner fender starts and goes forward .... there is actually a gap that allows water coming off the wheel to run down the inside of the inner fender right towards the intake/filter.

Correct, it's a cheap , shitty design. You can actually drill a couple extra holes and add some more 7mm screws. Run some thin rubber weatherstripping in the gap and tighten it down.. Thats what I did.

I was thinking of doing something similar , that gap is in a terrible spot that catches a ton of water and other road grime . Good idea , i'm gunna go with the weatherstripping .
