i have a base ls 4 lug and want to convert to 5 lug 4wdisc...i can get hubs for like 500 for all four corners. does anybody know what caliper bracket i woudl need for the rear brakes and would the front caliper bracket accomodate the 5 lug rotors? thanks

i think maven is staying 4 lug...i read a couple of his posts that were larger rotors and diff brackets but it was only for the front because he had drums in the rear i believe...am i wrong maven? thats how i understood it is all

I am going 5 lug, reeeeaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllll soon.

I do have drums in the back, not for long.

To put discs on the back you either need a skilled fabricator, an SS rear axle or an aftermarket kit

whole axle???? the ecotec build book i found said that any suspension should bolt into any car.....i assumed that ment the hubs and caliper brackets too...or is that what you ment? do you know what bracket it is? or are you goin afermarket

There is no "bracket" for the rear, the calipers and slides bolt directly to the axle beam.

I was looking into going 5-lug on my LS as well but after researching and seeing the expense on 5-lug wheels and the conversion itself im just going to stay 4-lug with the the SSBC BRAKE KIT from cobalt-addiction.com. its that or trade in for the 09 ss/turbo sedan.

Maven, are you going to the SS lug pattern, or something different?

aww piss...well i suppose thats almost easier than piecing together a rear disc system and converting to 5 lug....i just have to find a totalled ss and yank the whole rear suspension out lol...

what about the fron tho? do the hubs and brackets all bolt up to the ls crap or do you have to find an ENTIRE ss suspension to go 5 lug

SS, Ill be converting to complete SS/SC spec or better on everything in the suspension and wheel brake system.

Yes, up front all youll need is some 5 lug hubs(HHR hubs are available without the ABS sensors.....) and whatever brakes you want to run.

Switching to DISC is the part thats complicated, because there has never been a 4whl disc non ABS front wheel drive vehicle in GMs recent history, so there is no way to just bolt on the proper brake system and bias, you need to EXPERIMENT with your proportioning. Its not safe to just throw all the disc parts on and call it a day

if you want, i'll send you all the front peices that you want off my car. i assume you already have most of the rear correct?

I dont beleive SS HHR hubs wont fit LSJ knuckles without machining, pretty sure. Gotta make a list of all the permutations they are many....

Nope, your right, you cant mix and match LNF hubs/knuckles and non-LNF hubs/knuckles.

I was pointing out though that the HHR is 5 lug and was available without ABS, so HHR front hubs are cheaper than Cobalt 5 lug hubs.

Thanks for the offer, but ive already got all that stuff in-stock or enroute :)

what about lt hubs w/o abs ? or do those not exist lol and how do you recommend playing w the bias?

The only 5 lug non ABS hubs are from the HHR.

I hope you understand why I choose not to give recommendations or advice on playing with the bias or proportioning. Its not something you should mess with without an understanding of whats going to happen. I am experimenting with my car, and have lots of hardware, all the tools,a strong understanding of base brake system and hydraulic function and large open test areas at my disposal.

If you dont have this, I dont recommend messing with it. Brakes are a critical safety system, and not something that lends itself to how-to's on reengineering the system.

no i understand how the system works, whats going to happen, why it happens, and i have pleeenty of tools and i can get hardware ...i was just curious where you were going to start, like brake proportining valve from jegs or are you going a simpler/more complicated route....im an airplane mechanic i have lots of tools and long roads around me(and by that i mean the airport) lol

sounds like a decent recipe.

I'll be using a simpler or possibly more complicated route.

I apologize if this seems like I am being a dick in this matter.

Please stop making queries regarding my solutions for the hydraulic system. I will not share that information.
