Valve cover cleaning

As some of you know or maybe don't know my VC is polished chrome. When winter is finally over, I'd like to clean it. Now when I look at it, it has like wintery crap spots all over it. It seems like it's baked in or something cause I tried to clean with a wet shamwow ( ) But it didn't do anything. I was told I can use polish cleaner and engine degreaser and a pressure washer to clean it. I want to make sure if this is correct info?

if it is polished...and not sealed (clear coat, clear powder) then the only way is to polish....it is "tarnishing" or "oxidizing"...only way to fix is to polish it with some metal polish and elbow grease

I won't have to take it off again will I? And it will remove anything baked onto it?

Some 3M rubbing compound might work to remove the spots, and then some metal polish afterward.

Ok thanks guys! Also is there some kind of protectant I can put on it to keep it clean and protected for the future? Or will the polish do that?

If it's an SS/TC... and i'm assuming you guys have snow/salt like we do up her in michigan... use a mr clean magic eraser. Took the brown, oxidized looking spots right off without having to break my arm scrubbing like i did with a few other products
