Turbo Build: The Disassembly (Edited: 3/12 @ 9pm)

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN UPDATED
Updated on March 12th @ 9pm

Well... My Kit will be here on Friday, The 13th . Ive already sent in my ECU for reprogramming, Im just waiting for it to get back. That should arrive here in the next day or two.

Ive decided to break things down over the week. So that way, when the kit comes, i can spend all day installing it, instead of busting my ass that whole day, and be pissed because i cant drive it . Im impatient when it comes to things like this.

Unfortunately I cant order a 3" exhaust until two weeks from now, when Ill be ordering my Tru-Boost as well (that gauge is Sick). But here are some pictures of what Ive done so far.

Monday
I dont have too much time, but i Decide to take off The Cold air intake... This was a BITCH... I have pictures, but dont really feel like posting those... because it pissed me off...

ECU was Removed.

Tuesday
The supercharger removal was easy...

I used the belt as some leverage to push down the tensioner. It worked, but i got the wrench stuck, haha...

Removing the Alternator bolts was quite easy... Getting it out of the engine bay was a PAIN IN THE ASS!

It seemed easier taking the coolant hose off. If you see, I had the Extra coolant Res in the engine bay... But had MAJOR leaking problems...

So instead of doing the plumbing, I just replaced the res with the stock fill neck.. haha...

I took the TB off of the Blower, Because the Supercharger setup is Sold already (Im sure Rockstar will enjoy this thread ).

Im Going to be moving up to the LS4 TB after i buy HP tuners.

Ill update this thread tomorrow after work, and after I do some more work (Im not sure if I should start taking off the headers, or my intake manifold).

First Update

Wednesday
Well, after I removed the alternator, I thought I was going to be able to take off the intake manifold. Needless to say, I was mistaken... haha...

I decided to wait till Thursday before I took off what was needed to reach the last bolt... the Intercooler pump.

Thursday
I got right to work. Brought home a floor jack and got some jack stands. Its held up by a bracket type thing. You have to remove the IC pump, and the bracket... in order to get to the last bolt..

This is the easiest way to get that last bolt on the bottom of the Intake manifold mount.

Not too long following, I removed the beast of a intake mani... Had to wiggle it out a little bit, but it came out through the top.

So, after 3 days of work, about 2-3 hours a day, I'm finally done getting the bulk of the stuff out of the front of the engine bay. I also removed the SC tensioner pulley, as Ill no longer be needing this .

Ill be getting my alternator welded tomorrow during my lunch break . Ive also taken about 30 minutes and removed the bolts connected the DP to the header. Ive taken some of the nuts off of header... But I'll most likely finish that tomorrow.

The progress will be updated! Watch out for Part 2: The Assembly.

Enjoy!

thats the same I and another guy here in mich have done. its a great kit. dont expect to have ur pcm back with in 2 days tho. it took like a week for mine but they did have problems. but even when i sent them a copy of my tune file to modify it took them like 3-4 days. its all pretty straight forward. the hot side charge piping on the outlet of the turbo is kinda confusing. and the cold side where it goes thru the hole up into the engine bay u gotta play with it and twist it around and findthe sweet spot for the angel. its gay but it looks great once its done. let me kno if theres anything else ya need.

you simply get rid of the tensioner and and idler pulley and switch the the belt tensioner off of the non S/C ecotecs yr 05+ and of course get a belt to match. parts less then 100 ish. gmpartsdirect.com sells the parts cheaper then CED. i kno the 04 eco tensioner doesnt work cuz i tried the one from my buddies cavi. i sold him my supercharger stuff.

im actually waiting on custom seat brackets from gravana tuning which have taken over 3 weeks to be made and they'll be here thursday. but i have rode in my buddy kevins car who has done the stage 5 hahn kit and tuned on the 15lbs the thing is a absolute beast. worth every penny. make sure you get tuned after u get everything installed. thats if u want to bring the car to its full potential with the turbo kit installed. the tune is quite conservative from hahn.

Welcome to the Turbo Kit club

One problem I had was the bolts connecting the turbo to the manifold and the bolts holding the manifold kept backing out. Very difficult to get to. Dropping whole unit and reattaching with hex style bolts and safty wire all bolts so I never have to tighten again ever.
Love the sound and the feel when the sucker comes alive at 4500RPM
Running 24psi and around 350plus hp and putting in Rebel throttle body and learned also to take the fins out of the intake to increase the air flow. Hope to close in on 400hp this summer.

Thats good to know... Hopefully i dont have that problem, but well have to see...

Thanks for the Welcome, btw .

It seems that a new TB would really help me out here. I also really need to get myself a 3" exhaust. Would you feel that 3.5" would be too big, even though its a turbo?

Have you taken off your intake manifold?

exhasut sizing is all determined via turbine out put.

so, ask your self, what size is the out put flange on the turbo?

take that number, add .25in to offset the lost cross section in bends, and you have an answer.

The tune on kevins car is most definitely not Hahns.

its an initial tune of mine....car is still missing a whole chunk of power.

car was a disaster with the hahn tune....i'd say it might put out stock power levels.

Obviously a new tune is in order... but what so "off" with theirs?

Is it just TOO conservative? Once i get hptuners in order maybe we can work something out where i can log some things and have you review them?

Thankyou on the info for the exhaust size.. im looking that up now.

I cannot find specs on the s20g for the life of me... i just get a whole bunch of forum posts about the hahn kit.

what size (AR) is the exhaust housing?

v-band out put, 5bolt.....what style is it?

also, the tune is just unsafely conservative.

there is a point in witch pulling spark starts to become unsafe as EGT's get out of control....they are at that mark.

max 9 deg of advance at WOT.
