Resleaving 2.0 LSJ
Resleaving 2.0 LSJ
I need to have 1 cylinder resleaved on the LSJ. It has a gouge in it.
I brought it to Robbins Auto Part's Machine shop. Turns out they can't resleave it (they resleave other motors but this engine is 'special'). Needs to be heated to around 1000 degrees and pressed out. I need to bring it somewhere that specializes in the newer engines that are like this.
Has anyone had this done? If so do you have some recomendations on where to get it done? I would prefer some place local which I will start looking, but I am willing to ship it if necesary.
Any help is appreciated.

Someone at Robbins Auto Part's Machine shop is not "up" on this new "special" engine.
From the factory service manual:
"Do not chill or heat the cylinder block when removing or installing a new cylinder bore sleeve". The factory service manual even shows the R+R with the crankshaft in the engine!
Robbins Auto Part's Machine shop needs an EN 45680-850 Cylinder Sleeve Removal and Installation Kit...and a manual

Oh really?
Well I found a place that said they can do the engine, and they seem to be more of specialists with engines so maybe it's better I have them do it.
Robbins charges like 100/sleeve (for other engines). Darton sleeves would cost me way more than just having this one sleave repaired.

i paid 600 for my dartons and im having this work done right now. my machinist didnt have any problems with my 2.0 or my buddies 2.2. but yes they have to be pressed out. after the machine work for the new ones they have to be frozen and left in the press for 24hours while they expand so they dont lift out. these arent a drop in replacement though. there is extensive machining that has to be done. it took my guy 11hours just in machien work to do my buddies 2.2 i dunno how he is doing on mine. but i do know that the measuring and tolerances involved are way beyond my knowledge
Including cost of parts & labor, the stock sleave is going to cost me $380 & if I went with 4 Dartons (which he said take a bit of labor to install) would cost me $1500.
If I was planning on building this engine I would deff do the Dartons, but I plan on leaving the engine mostly stock and If I do change my mind and end up doing a lil bit to it, the stock sleaves will be all I will need still. So for my plans & the cost difference is not really worth it.
I want to keep this as a daily and once I buy a house Im going to throw a real project car in the garage. Most likely a C3 Stingray Vette, 79-82 cause I like the rear clip/rear window better. Restore it and give it life, not waist money on another econo box, I already tried that, lol.
