i see no difference between cutting open your air box to have an open filter and putting an open filter in your engine bay

and my aem, you would need at least 20 inches of standing water in order to be ingested, remember the entire filter has to be submerged to suck in water

Buy a K&N drycharger cover for your filter. That would help repel the water....but if you submerged the intake in water, I don't think the drycharger cover would do much protection.

yes the entire filter would have to be submerged.. But im not havin probs with that. Just water that has been sprayin up will get into your intake. if you have the "synthetic Dry filter" its does not repel water.. after driving in the rain on saturday my MAFS was soaked... trust me man, you need to design your airbox so that the water does not spray up

I get a CEL if it rains HARD and I'm boosting a lot of the time. If I take it easy and drive like my grandmother it's ok. Mine always stumbles a bit on wet mornings until it's warmed up a bit.

I don't understand how the drycharger dosen't rob you of power but keeps the water off your cone. Anyone know the answer?

It just helps repel water a little more than the factory filter. I believe the AEM filter's are dry and not oiled like K&N so water could go into them easier. You might lose like 1/4 hp with the drycharger.

How is an oiled filter better than a paper or dry cloth one? Air still gets through an oiled filter, so you think that water wont?

Here's the link, I didn't see anything about forced air vs aspirated. It shouldnt make a difference, it only activates when submerged or hydrolock. Check it out

it was on aem's website i think. i remember seeing it too, and it makes sense, since it will activate when pressure builds up, and with a superchargher pulling air into the engin, there is pressure so it would likely open it.
