Bumpstop picture request
its the huge nipple looking thing that hangs down in the top middle of the rear springs, pull straight down and they pop out. it's a tan color rubber thing.
hope that helps without a pic.

From what I understand, it is necessary to cut them to stop your car from bottoming out, with the lower ride and lower stance there is a greater chance of your car hitting that bumpstop and therefor bottoming out, I assume that they are meant to be cut to keep the ride nice and prevent from getting a sudden jolt from hitting the bumpstop, I didnt cut mine either and probably wont until i bottom out
it makes the ride waaaaaaaayyyyy smoother on a bumpy road. when you lower a car, or truck, the vehicle frame is much more likely to hit the bump stops. for those of you who say you havent hit them, sometimes you dont know that you are hitting them and you may mistake it for just a larger bump(or you really havent hit them YET). you should notice a difference with them cut shorter. i had my old truck lowered and it was much smoother once i cut mine down.
I was also under the impression that you guys were trimming the edges of that piece and not the actual piece that hangs down into the spring. that thing actually touches the bottom of the "spring cup"(?) Are you trimming the bottom and the top or just the top?
I'm still not understanding though, wouldn't having those there STOP you from bottoming out? I think some pics of cut bump stomps are in order because if it makes a difference I'm gonna cut mine.

The bumpstops are what you bottom out against. when you shorten the suspension stroke you cut these shorter to kinda even it out and keep the same stroke as stock. When you hit bumpstops it REALLY makes your car shake. Even harder than just a normal bump....
I thought the suspension was also stiffer and that the bump stops would not be an issue. On any show I've seen on TV where they chenged the springs on the Cobalt, they didn't even mention the bumpstops.
I think if you were hitting them you would know. Especially now you guys know what they are for/ what they do.... If you aren't hitting them do not worry about it. If you are trim them an inch or so.....
ya i havent cut them and dont plan on it it sounds kind of ghetto rigged, plus theyre there for a reason.... so you dont truly bottem out. Especially if you have a body kit i think youd rather feel a bump then be missing a bumper. Chevy puts the bump stops there for a reason, to limit how close to the road the car can get.

I think I'd rather have a nice set of stiff struts and springs so I didn't have to worry about bouncing off of them.
