Launching a tuned SS/TC

Since I got my SS/TC tuned with the Hahn intake installed, I've made like 4 passes down the strip. My 1st pass was shitty, like a 9.5 spinning 1st, 2nd and some of 3rd. My 2nd pass was about the same, but the 3rd pass I got it down to 9.1 and was still spinning 1st, 2nd and some of 3rd. I believe it was my 4th pass that I ran a 10.x because of spinning and loss of boost for some reason. Is it possible to run a decent time with the stock Conti's, or should I just wait til I get some DR's to hit the strip? Our local track is an 1/8 mile and 95% of the time it isnt prepped. I know my car is capable of an 8.5-8.6 in the 1/8 mile, just not sure it can be accomplished on the stock tires. If anyone can help with launching this beast on stock tires please let me know, thanks!!

Man, your local track stinks. 9.2 is what these cars can run stock, and you should not be spinning in third at all really. My car hardly spins in third on the street unless it is kinda cold. Try lowing the tire pressure to 26 lbs or so on the front tires that may help. What were your 60ft times?

Like I said, my track sucks. They dont even hand out slips, LOL. When I was stock I ran a 9.5 without using NLS and I still spun 1st and some of 2nd then. You know how big of a difference this car is after it's tuned. I spin 1st easily, 2nd easily, and once I hit 3rd it spins for a second or 2 before it catches and at that point I'm about to cross the finish line. I might have to wait til it gets warmer out and they start having bracket racing, they should atleast then prep it for those guys, and once they're done racing they let us street cars race right after.

So are you saying they don't prep the track at all?

Stock I just chrip 2nd, never spin. Maybe your foot is a little heavy? If you're just mashing throttle and letting it spin in every gear, try not going WOT 'til you get traction. Never driven a tuned SS/TC so I don't know how much that advice would help. Good luck though.

if you're spinning so much, that's part of the problem. spinning your tires is wasted time. have to find the balance between accelerating as fast as you can without spinning so much.

The only time they prep the track is on Friday nights when they have Bracket Racing. The Bracket Racing is a sanctioned event with points and money given out, so I wanna say they do prep it for those guys. But after 3 to 4 hours of the Bracket Racing they let the street cars in and let us run from say 11pm to 2am or so, it's called Midnight Madness. I'm sure the track is still prepped some, but not so much. And sometimes they open it up on Saturday or Sunday, like when I went, but it was just a quick thing with no track prep. Might foot might be alittle heavy because I'm worried about the other car getting ahead of me and having to play catch up, but I guess if I just ease into it and then mash it once I get traction I'll catch the other person if I'm faster. And in a tuned SS/TC, I will spin rolling in 2nd or 3rd gear going anywhere from 40-60mph. I gotta try something because I know I can get my car deep into the 8's in the 1/8 mile. Thanks for the input.

Bingo, I will spin in 2nd and 3rd gear going between 40-60mph. I guess I just gotta find the right launch spot without spinning.

I don't really have any advice to give.. I've only driven a stock TC and never been to the track with one.

I can barely launch my GM Stage 2 SS/SC, I can't imagine how bad it must be trying to launch your tuned TC.

If I were you I'd wait for warmer weather and do a few runs on stock tires to get a baseline and then see what sort of improvements you see with just DRs. That's me though.

Either way good luck

What kind of times does your Mustang put down?
