Stuck Floor Mat, Need to Vaccum

I cannot remove my driver side floor mat. I tried for about two minutes and quit from embarrassment. There is a hook that is attached to the floor of the car and comes up through the mat, holding it in place. I could not get the hook to move through the hole in the mat.

I did not want to break the plastic hook off by pulling up real hard on the mat.

The hook and mat are stock on my SS/TC, not sure if all Cobalts have the hook or not. I think it is there so the mat does not slide which is particularly important in a manual car.

Once I get it removed I will vacuum, and also need to shampoo the mat. I never shampooed a car mat before. What kind of product can I use to clean the carpet mats? My floor mat has water and salt stains from winter.

lift and push the mat toward the back of the car and it will clear the hook.

QFT. It works exactly like that, you don't have to force anything.
