check engine light, car runs fine. anyone else?

so my car is stock. ive had it since November and ive had it in service 4 times now for various things. needless to say im pissed. but im even more pissed because today i drove all the way from my home in NJ to my school in PA and now...when i actually have **** to do my check engine light is on. This happened once before and they told me to use premium fuel which i already did. i dont use anything but premium and the light is on again but the car runs fine. anyone else getting a light with no symptoms?

if there is an autozone around, they'll pull the code for free, shouldn't take more than about 3 minutes. at least that could give us some idea.

it could also be something stupid like u need to take ur gas cap off on put it back on. did it show up after u filled up gas? cause the code doesnt usually go away unless u erase it from my experience. get a code tool so u can check and erase ur own codes in the future. its worth not having to do to dealer and paying for something that takes 2 minutes

I get a minor misfire code all the time. I've had it to the dealer twice and they don't know what to do. It never does it when it's there of course. The cel does eventually go off by itself. My just came on again about a week ago and its already reset itself and come back on again. lol. I don't know if I need to be worried. It runs great. No other problems at all. I run 91 octane gas because its the best they got here in Utah. Maybe 93 would be better. Who knows.

prob just your map sensor on your intake i have the same thing.... i just ignore it i don't feel like untuning my car going to the shop getting the sensor replaced and getting my tune out back on lol..... btw you should go to the best buy meet on tue nights (when it is nice like 200 cars) and there are 4 turbo cobalts that go.... right now i am the only one that is tuned.... but i think one of us is getting trifecta..... (trifecta vs ttp race in the works )

why do people get so worked up about a cel? like it's the end of the world, or their car is going to blow up

if the car drives fine, chances are it's nothing to worry about. get the code scanned.

Me too on the sunroof waited two months and it still leaks air at highway speeds. To the Op what code is it? If the told you to run premium fuel maybe it is a lean or misfire code either way they should fix whatever it is.

I race mine on the weekends, and honestly, it wasnt a fun weekend uless the light comes on... Im not sure what code it throws, but generally after a refill of my tank and about 20 miles it shuts off again.

Edit: It runs fine for me before during and after the light comes on.

is ur sunroof totally flush with the roof, mine wasnt and they tried to fix it, finally i took it in and said either they fix it so its totally flush or get me a new car. they had to order in some part, but it sits totally flush now and only starts to whistle at about 120 mph, so im happy with that. make em fix it right, u paid for a fully working car, not a half working car. tell them that to.

fwit, the dealer service manual says to adjust the sunroof so the rear is just slightly higher than the front.

noise at 120 mph. doesn't sound right. i had absolutely no noise when i got into the 130 club. sounds like something is still wrong with your sunroof.

I have a friend who hasn't even had the car a month/1k miles, and he's on his third map sensor.

I don't know which of the two the continue to replace, but it's starting to get pretty pathetic.

my 08ss luckily has only thrown codes that were my fault.

If you bought the car new, then you have onstar for a year right? wtf dont you get onstar to run a diagnostic code on it? They will tell you EXACTLY what the code is. Hell you can even speak to a tech and they "usually" can tell you how to fix it.

As far as gas cap code goes. You have to let it warm COMPLETELY up, then let it cool COMPLETELY down, 7 times, then it will disappear. I've had 2 codes. Gas cap, and Cam shaft sensor came unplugged.
