2nd gear grinding

Hey guys, well this is my first car i've owned thats been a stick. I had it since October and just today I started hearing a grinding noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Clutch is all the way in when shifting and it still grinds, it doesn't pop out though, it will stay in and drive just fine. Im thinking its a bearing gone but any tips or suggestions? Also, my car is a Stage II and I was wondering, would a stage 1 clutch be fine to put it? Im not even sure if the car has a stage 1 or stage 2 clutch right now, but would I have any problems putting a stage 1 in? Also where would I find the best prices?

2nd gear synchros seem to be an issue with these. Hope you still have powertrain warranty

Every manual cobalt tranny does it. Sucks, but whatever.

No they wont, they'll tell you its a common problem and send you on your way.

If it shifts tight and smooth, don't worry about it.

Mine did that for a while and then one day as I was getting into the freeway and it wouldnt let me shift into second at all. Then started griding going into 3rd. The dealer ended up replacing the whole tranny. So go to the dealer they will fix it even if it is a common problem.

Well mine is 2005 with 83,xxx KM on it. What does the powertrain warranty go to? I went to the dealer today and the service manager told me to come back and talk to him on monday and hopefully by then he will have a answer whether or not they will cover it. I changed my transmission oil today and the plug had a bunch of shavings on it. The shop told me that my tranny was on its way. Hopefully the dealer will figure something out for me by monday, I really cant afford to replace the entire tranny right now as I have a ongoing project on my 69 camaro that is so close to being completed! Thanks guys!

It should be a 100,000km, but being an 05 I'm not sure.

Robhole with a g5 has had his syncros replaced under warranty twice. And on the third time he got a new tranny so yes they will fix it.

Ok well I just called another dealership and they said the car is covered under the powertrain warranty for another year or 100,000km. So hopefully they'll replace the tranny instead of just the synchros or whatever. So glad I dont have to pitch out $2000+!! Would this be a good time to replace my clutch, since they have to drop the tranny anyways? Or would a new tranny come with a new clutch, flywheel, etc?

New / rebuilt tranny will not include the clutch or flywheel.....and if you are looking to upgrade or if the clutch that is in there needs replacing, do it while they have the tranny out anyway.....will save your wallet somewhere around 6 hours labour
