Angry Rock Chipped Windshield

Well, it happened as it ALWAYS happens to me trying to pass those god damn construction trucks with their dump area full of rocks - a nice one slammed into my 2 week old car causing a nice chip on the right side of the windshield ('m usually good with keeping distance from these bitches as I can literally see rocks flying from them sometimes)!

I wish I could file against them for a new windshield, but I know I can't as they'll state everything was secured down and there's nothing more we can do, etc. etc and that it was from a loose rock on the road and not theirs.

I'm honestly just venting because I'm pissed off that I have this nasty chip/crack on the front windshield of my new car. I'll let the initial realization that I have a chip on my windshield go away and then see if it still bothers me to get the damn thing replaced.

I went online and got a quote of $210 installed which doesn't seem too bad. Has anyone else ever had to replace their front windshield? If so, how much did it run you installed?

Why would you replace it because you have a chip?

Why not just get it filled in, I'm not sure which insurance company you are with but it's usually free..

Statefarm is the company I use, and you just have to call them and they will provide you with a number or something you give to the place that's going to fix it

Fill it as soon as you can. mine chip started by sleet then made about a 3ft crack at the bottom of my windshield thankfully it did not get in my view site Lol. I got a quote for 200 dollars to replace the whole windshield. My insurance (state farm) wouldn't pay crap. i would have had to pay a 500 dollar deductible for them to replace a 200 dollar windshield. Kind of stupid.

Chips can be glued, I would look into that first. Mine got busted in the first 24 hours of ownership. It was a good size rock; loud enough that I flinched from the impact even over the factory radio at max volume.

Yeah especially if it's low or high on the windshield. I had a couple on my RSX-S before I sold it. I was pissed like you but I got over it. It was free to get it fixed.

I agree though about those construction trucks. IMO I think they should be required to just use a broom or something and just knock off all the loose rocks hanging on the back and on the axles. It'd only take a minute or two and save people like you and me this hassle. Well... a lot less of them anyway.

I guess if it the crack is less than a quarter in size, they just fill it with that glue/resin/epoxy and it holds, happened to my maxima. crack did not spread after application.

My insurance company covered my windshield and all I had to pay was $50 for it.

Check the insurance company first.

210 $ seems like an unreasonably low price..... if u can get it at that price, just replace it... me thinks its typically a 500$ job.

I'm not an expert or anything like that. BUT... if you look at the windshield on a Cobalt SS the edges of the glass are bare. There's no trim or weatherstrip covering them. Just like the glass is sitting there. I would imagine that's a lot of it.

Some BMW's etc. can be $1300!!
