G85 SS pops his cherry

Well, today was my first trip to the drag strip ever. I was a little nervous but I got over that after my first run.

So, quick little run down, my mods are in my sig. Also, I will add that I have 81,500 miles on my car, stock pirellis, GM stage 2 tun with bolt on's and a 2.9 pulley. I don't know what my first run was but I would venture to say it was around 14.2 based off of what the guy I was racing ran. Second run was 14.8 because I couldn't hook to save my life.

3rd and 4th runs are right here:

I dropped my tire pressure down to 24psi. When I checked them after the second run they were in the high 30's.

but I am happy with a 13.7 @103. My first time at the track, plus temps were in the 90's.

not bad for never going before, heavily needing improvement on your launching skills and i can see you easily down into the lower 13s

I do need some work, no doubt. I only did 4 passes but my last 2 were really close. I only have the ingalls for traction so I am definitely going to look into something more for traction. Ingalls is good on the street but it still hops like a mo fo if you aren't careful at the strip.

take out drivers headlight, lower down to 15 psi front, 40psi rear, run low 13s.

also dont worry about the light, your ets are based off when you start, not when tree starts

Yea. Like I said, I was just more focused on launching the car well and to get used to the track conditions.

I did walk that BMW nasty though. As soon as I grabbed my slip and parked I saw him drive by looking at me and then he left the raceway.

im just teaching you ways to make yourself comfortable at the track and getting the upmost of your car while there.

my lancer was just a sohc 2.4L with just an intake and i ran 15 flat because of just taking the proper measures. While h22, rsx, and other vehicles where scratching there heads while they were running 15.5

15psi is too low. the stock pirelli's have the most contact patch at 24psi

If this is your 1st time ever at the track, running some high 13s is fantastic.

Thanks. What shocked me is I ran that in 90+ degree weather on a GM Tune with Bolt ons and other guys with HP tuners on 60's 2.8 and more were running 14's. Although one guy got his to a 13.8 on OTT Stage 1.

Goes to show you, driver counts. You would have most likely driven the other guys cars better than they could have. You should have traded rides for a run with the Hp tuner guy to see if your skills were greater than his.

Well BLAZIN07SS had a 13.9 @108 I believe. He was running spray but he couldn't get traction to save his life. My second pass was horrid. I ran a 14.8 @102. On the launch I spun and even letting off the throttle the tires wouldn't grab at all. That's when I dropped my tire pressure and got results. I definitely need to work on my R/T though.

Unless you are bracket racing or racing a car with equal power to weight ratios and really need to win that race, R/T doesn't effect ET. I redlight enough and I don't care as long as I get a nice ET. I don't race for competition very often.

Yea, it was really hot out there! I ran a 14.2 in my LNF, but it was also my first time, and I'm basically stock (K&N Drop-In). I am going back with Brandon on May 17th!!!
