Question about the O-RINGS under valve cover
Question about the O-RINGS under valve cover
Ok, this may be a really dumb question but realize that I am a learner on the mechanical side of the cobalts and Ive just been recently getting my feet wet but this is my question- On the valve cover once its removed there is a valve cover gasket of course that runs along the outter edge of the cover followed by the spark plug gaskets located underneath the cover. I believe that there is also supposed to be 4 O-Rings located inside of where the spark plug gaskets are. So basically I am wondering a few things here. I dont have these "O-rings" installed. I cant remember when I shipped my valve cover into have it polished if they were on in the first place because I removed the other gaskets knowing that I was going to replace them just as a precaution and gm recommends replacing them when the cover is off. Its been a while now so my memory isnt good enough to remember. As far as I can see it looks like there should be an O-Ring installed in the holes under the cover but I need someone who knows to tell me. When I puchased the new gaskets from GM I told the GM parts personal that I needed all the gaskets that go along with the cover and all they gave me was the spark plug gaskets and the outter main gasket. Also, what is the purpose of these O-Rings?? As far as I can tell it just looks like the spark plug gasket(working correctly) wouldnt allow the flow of any oil into the chamber where the spark plugs are mounted. I just need someone with some knowledge of this to please clarify. Thanks in advance for any help given.
Thats not really true though because the spark plug gaskets serve that purpose. The only thing these potential O-rings would do is seal off where the bolts go into mount the inner part of the valve cover.
Oh I see they are seperate from the spark plug gaskets. Thats what I was thinking you were talking about. When I go my valve cover gasket kit for my 2.2L it just had the gaskets. I dont see why there would be orings. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the 2.0 will have more input on this.
