Alright...start the flaming lol.

I've always wanted a CAI, but what has always stopped me was the fear of getting water into the engine and messing it up if I installed a CAI. Is this a real risk, and if it is, is there something I can do to prevent it other than switching back and forth from a CAI to the stock air intake? TIA

 

thats the same reason i dont want a CAI, my buddys SRT4 got messed up with a CAI and water getting in it... but most people have no problems. get a water sheild thing that covers the filter

let me put it this way... if you drive through enough water to lock up your car, you're going to ruin the car whether or not you have an intake.

 

just get the AEM cover, and the thing that goes in your tubing, sorry i can't think of the name. i'll see if i can find a link

I had CAI with a hydrofilter on it, was perfect in even the worst rain and puddles.

 

check out the group buys i think i saw where if you buy the cia they give you the shield.

 

i just bought one from cobalt-addiction that uses your factory box to cover the filter, you might want to look into that if your really worried, i think it is the xtc intake

 

yeah...these guys have said it...if you really want CAI..be sure to get a hydroshield before you drive through a puddle and hydrolock the motor....or if you want to be safer..go short ram

 

To hydrolock the engine you will need to drive through deep enough water to almost completely submerge the filter. At this point there will be water coming in your doors and the engine will be the least of your worries. Keep in mind that water is a natural product of combustion. For the amount of water needed to hydrolock the block to get in, you will be pretty much swimming. don't worry about it.

 

Get an SRI. K&N is ftw for Cobalts.
