CAI or SRI?
CAI or SRI?
I was just wondering what the pros and cons between the two were.
I have read around and seen that SRI can be better because they're less likely to suck water in like a CAI can, but I also have seen that CAI are better then SRI performance wise. I just would like to know more on which I might want to invest into and what brand should I be looking into buying.
Also the stock airbox on my '09 Cobalt SS/TC would be considered a SRI right?

they are about the same but es cai can intake water through the filter your best bet is a sri there louder to the cai is mainly like higher rm perfromance and the sri is more low end i have the k&n typhoon and i love it your best bet is a sri no hassel just clean the filter every once awhile any other questions just ask =]
As for what I want to do with the car that I am still not completely sure of.
I mainly want whichever one will give me the better performance bump, but I don't want to sacrifice to many mpg if that's possible, and I don't want something that could put my car at risk unless there is a solution to prevent CAI's from sucking water into the engine?
Also anymore recommendations on brands? I hear clear image is about to release both there CAI and SRI. I know Hahn has a CAI and I have not seen the K&N SRI or a CAI.

Either way, the puddle would have to be above the side skirts (over the bottom of the door) for it to get into the filter... and you shouldnt be driving in puddles that big anyway... The cold air just doesnt suck up water if its raining or something like that.. The CAI will be the better performer... But really, the tune is what will give you the most power.
You are limited at 260hp. You will gain power overall through the entire RPM band, which is better than peak hp anyway.

That is true, but it could still happen.
If I were to get a CAI which brands should I look into? I heard that I can have problems with the computer if it has a conflict with the CAI.

they make covers for the filters for the cai...watershield or something...hydroshield, thats the ticket. heard they work well, however I wonder if they actually restrict airflow at all. would love to hear input on if thats true or not. dont have one yet, will let u know in maybe a month or so. not gonna put my cai on until i get the gm tune, and see what kinda wierd intake they replace the stock one with.
i asked the same cai brand question and was told go clear image. thats what im doin. hahn makes a gorgeous cai however ive heard lots of complaints about the maf sensor fitting. not snug or something. enough to make me shy away from it.

They do not restrict air flow one single bit.
The only problems that the computer has with the CAI is that you will not be able to see peak hp rise above 260hp without a tune.
What happends though is that you will see hp rise under the peak hp.. meaning that at 4500 rpm, if before you say 180hp, now you might see 191 at 4500 rpm...

so in that case i would go with the injen cai. idk if turbotechracing still has that sale, but they threw in a free hydro shield when you buy an injen intake.
CAI and SRI togather
ok I build a long air intake whit part I found at my auto part store it work great I still have to get a ait sensor housing your see it there all taped up. see fig 2 yes that not really working that well. in next day or two I will be getting a ait sensor house kit and I was thinking but getting small filter and taking out one of pip's see fig 1 that way pull some air for fender will and some engine bay. so you think that will be batter or is it not worth throw more money at it ?????
