Best way to clean T/C 18" wheelz?

Ok, like the thread states....

I can not seem to keep my wheels clean for one week. No, I don't slam on the breaks.... The brembos just seem to always throw up all over my wheels! not to mention once the break dust gets on, its almost impossible to get off!

Is there a wax or coating you can put on the wheels to keep break dust from sticking to the wheels? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Clean with soap and water. Wheel wax helps a TON with dust.

If they are bad, wash with dish soap. Claybar, then wheel wax. It works wonders.

There's no way to eliminate brake dust entirely because all friction linings are designed to wear. If the pads didn't wear, they'd soon will damage the rotors and pads are a lot cheaper to replace than rotors.

Brake dust can be reduced by applying a coating of wax or polymer-based protectant, or a spray wax wheel. The coating will reduce the tendency of brake dust to stick to the wheels and at the time to clean them the job is much easier.

I hope that helps

It is better just to invest in ceramic brake pads and eliminate the dusting issue all together.

its a spray on wax that comes in a big can. Some guy sold it to me, he was doing a promo at a gas station. It actually works great. It pretty much like any wax but its in a spray can, which would be much easier for wheels. And thats one of the things he said to me.

spray the wheels then the brake dust will come off with just a hose.

Only do this if you want to ruin your wheels.

Microfiber sponge and regular car wash soap is plenty.

i use a sponge for the face, and a brush on the inner part if the wheel, where the weights are... one thing that gets your wheels dirty as he11 is tire foam overspray, dirt sticks to it like a magnet... leaves specks of brake dust everywhere on your wheels and anywhere else you got it like on the fenders or doors... i use the armor all extreme tire shine with the little foam aplicator, it works great to avoid getting it anywhere you dont want it, let it dry for at least 30 mins before driving though because it flys off and gets on the sides of the car and everything sticks to it... also, wheels are alot easier to get clean if the dirt brake dust is less than 2 weeks old, any older it takes some time to get them back to excellent shine condition

I take one of two approaches:

1) Heavy amount of soap and a fibre wash mit. Depending on the mood I'm in spray wax or true wax applied every few months
2) While I'm not typically a fan of wheel cleaners, I used the TurboWax wheel cleaner since it came with the promotion and was actually impressed with how it worked. Spray on, rub all the surfaces (including the inside down) and then spray. While it looks like it's gone it will actually sud up with a pressure washer and the dust came right off. Downside when you do your rims as often as I do (at least once per week) you go through the stuff like it's water .

The wheels have a clear coat do NOT use an abrasive brush any slight peel or nick and you'll rip the **** clean off. The average wheel brush is designed for the inside of the wheel only though I have seen some softer ones available in local stores.
